Bhopal: The Sleemanabad Tunnel is nearing completion and will soon help bring Narmada water to farms in Rewa district, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said while interacting with farmers during the Balram Krishi Mahotsav.
The project is expected to strengthen irrigation and drinking water availability in the region. Once the Tyothar, Loni, Sirmour and Semaria irrigation projects are completed, around 1.32 lakh hectares of land in Rewa will receive irrigation facilities.
Rewa’s Agriculture Gets Major Irrigation Push
CM Yadav said Rewa has strong potential in agriculture, particularly horticulture and natural farming. Farmers in the district produce paddy, wheat, gram, lentil, flax and soybean in significant quantities.
The government is also encouraging farmers to move beyond traditional cultivation and adopt horticulture, natural farming, livestock rearing, millets and crop diversification.

50 Lakh Land Pattas to Get Free Registration
The Chief Minister also announced support for farmers and landholders whose land pattas have not yet been registered.
The state government will bear the registration cost for around 50 lakh such pattas, estimated at nearly ₹4,000 crore, and provide registration free of cost to eligible patta holders.
Rewa to Expand Natural Farming
The government is developing 1,000 hectares in Rewa as a natural farming cluster to promote chemical-free and sustainable agricultural practices.
The Basaman Mama Cow Sanctuary is also being developed as a centre for cow conservation and rural self-reliance. A natural farming training centre at the gaushala is helping farmers learn techniques such as Jeevamrit, Ghan Jeevamrit and other natural farming practices.
Focus on Horticulture and Millets
Rewa is also expanding its horticulture base, with guava, amla and jackfruit among the major crops produced in the district.
Under the state Millet Mission, cultivation of crops such as Kodo and Kutki is being promoted. The government sees millets as a way to diversify farm income while also supporting household nutrition.
During the interaction, progressive farmers shared their experiences of adopting modern agricultural machinery, organic inputs and natural farming techniques.
The Sleemanabad Tunnel, along with irrigation projects and the push for diversified and natural farming, is expected to strengthen Rewa’s agricultural economy and improve opportunities for farmers across the district.
