Imphal — In a significant move to integrate cutting-edge technology into defence operations, the Assam Rifles has entered into a strategic partnership with the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Manipur. The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at Mantripukhri, aims to advance the use of drone technology in surveillance, reconnaissance, and logistics support.

The signing ceremony was attended by Major General Ravroop Singh, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South), and the Director of IIIT Manipur. Both institutions emphasized the importance of leveraging academic expertise to develop innovative drone applications tailored to the unique challenges of defence operations in difficult terrains.
Launch of Advanced Drone Training and Refresher Program
As part of the initiative, an Advanced Drone Training and Refresher Program was officially launched during the event. The program includes comprehensive modules on drone flight operations, technical maintenance, and operational readiness. Importantly, the course is certified by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), ensuring adherence to national aviation standards.
Participants and Expected Impact
Nearly 80 participants, including Assam Rifles personnel and faculty from IIIT Manipur, are taking part in the program. This collaborative effort is expected to significantly enhance the technological capabilities of Assam Rifles, enabling more effective responses in high-risk and geographically complex areas.

The partnership represents a forward-looking model of defence-academia cooperation, fostering innovation and strengthening India’s self-reliance in emerging defence technologies.
