New Delhi: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has appointed Sukhmal Chand Jain (IRSE) as its new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) with effect from September 1. Bringing over 35 years of extensive experience in railway infrastructure, operations, policy, and safety, Jain’s appointment marks a significant step forward for RVNL’s leadership.

Experienced Leadership at the Helm

Mr Jain, an officer from the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) 1988 batch, holds a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from Pantnagar University and a Master of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Over the decades, Jain has gained comprehensive expertise in managing large-scale railway projects and operations.

His career highlights include his role as Divisional Railway Manager, Delhi, where he successfully handled one of the busiest railway divisions in the country. Jain was also instrumental in managing critical operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as coordinating special oxygen and COVID-19 relief trains.

Key Roles and Contributions

Before assuming the CMD position at RVNL, Jain held several senior roles within Indian Railways

Executive Director (Bridges & Works), Ministry of Railways: Oversaw critical bridge infrastructure and works, ensuring safety and quality.

Principal Chief Engineer, NCR Prayagraj: Played a vital role during the Maha Kumbh festival, managing infrastructure to support millions of pilgrims.

Principal Chief Safety Officer, Western Railway: Focused on enhancing safety protocols and standards across the network.

Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO): Contributed to bridge research and fostered international collaboration with railway systems in countries like Japan, Finland, Malaysia, Singapore, China, and Thailand.

Mr Jain’s global exposure to railway systems across Asia and Europe equips him with a broad perspective on best practices, innovation, and international standards in railway infrastructure. His leadership at RVNL is expected to bring forward-thinking strategies to the company’s ambitious rail development projects.

Appointment Confirmed

RVNL has confirmed that Sukhmal Chand Jain has not been debarred by SEBI or any other authority from holding the office of director, clearing all regulatory formalities for his appointment.
