T20 Cricket Tournament With The Theme “Play For Peace” Organised In J&K By Srinagar Police

Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Manoj Sinha inaugurated the cricket tournament on 20 September and appreciated the initiative taken by the police force in promoting the culture of sports and skills among the youth.

The craze among cricket fans in India is at the highest peak as the Indian Premiere League (IPL) is being conducted in UAE this year amid the rising Covid 19 pandemic.

Another state in India that faces many difficulties in regards to law and order, political constraints, etc. has come up with an initiative to launch Police Premier League in the state with the theme “Play For Peace”.

The police force of Srinagar has organized a cricket tournament under the Civic Action Program with the main aim of promoting the raw talent among the youth and providing them a platform to shine in the nation.

Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Manoj Sinha inaugurated the cricket tournament on 20 September for which the first match was played on the same day between Maisuma XI and R.R.C. Club Rawalpora.

During the inaugural ceremony, the Lt Governor interacted with the team members of various teams and also presented them with cricket kits. He also appreciated the initiative put forward by the Srinagar police, which will help in deviating the youth towards good practices and bring out extraordinary talents in front of the nation.

DGP J&K police, Mr. Dilbag Singh also addressed during the inauguration and appreciated the efforts made by the police force to promote sports and skills activities through these tournaments. He also enlightened by saying that they are also coming up with other tournaments like “Pedal for Peace”- cycle race for various categories followed by the “Jashn e Dal” Program.

On the same day, the finals of the women cricket tournament were also organized by the Anantnag Police. The match was played between Kulgam and Anantnag at GDC, Anantnag.

Many senior bureaucrats were present during the match which includes DGP J&K Dilbagh Singh accompanied by IG Kashmir, Vijay Kumar IPS, DIG SKR Atul Goyal IPS, and DC Anantnag. After the match, the team members were presented with awards and cash prizes.

Retired Indian cricketer Suresh Raina also witnessed the match and interacted with the players after the match. This was a big moment for the players as well as the state. It is believed that it will help in nurturing the culture of sports activities in the state.
