Tehri: The much-awaited four-day Tehri Lake Festival began on Thursday at Koti Colony in Tehri district, with the official inauguration by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The festival, scheduled from March 6 to March 9, aims to boost tourism and promote Tehri as a major travel destination in Uttarakhand.
Organized by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board in collaboration with the district administration, the festival is expected to attract adventure enthusiasts, tourists, and cultural performers from across the region.
Adventure Activities to Attract Tourists
A wide range of adventure sports and outdoor activities have been planned during the festival around Tehri Lake. These include:
- Trekking
- Mountain biking
- Rock climbing
- River rafting
Officials say these activities are designed to showcase the adventure tourism potential of the Tehri region and encourage more travelers to visit the scenic Himalayan destination.

Big Prize Money for Winners
Participants in various competitions during the festival will get a chance to win attractive prizes. According to organizers:
- First Prize: Up to ₹1,00,000
- Second Prize: ₹50,000
- Third Prize: ₹25,000
- Consolation Prizes: 10 awards of ₹5,000 each
Competitions include Master Chef, photography, painting, social media reel making, group fashion show, Mr. & Miss Tehri, rafting, and rap singing.

Speaking at the inauguration, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said the Tehri Lake Festival will help position Tehri as a leading tourist destination in the state. The event is also expected to generate local employment opportunities and support businesses connected to tourism, hospitality, and adventure sports.
Officials believe that initiatives like this festival will strengthen the tourism economy of Uttarakhand while showcasing the natural beauty and cultural richness of the Tehri region.
