Lucknow: In a significant boost to private investment in healthcare and medical education in Uttar Pradesh, Amit Kumar Ghosh, an IAS officer of 1994 batch and Additional Chief Secretary, Medical Education & Medical Health, Government of Uttar Pradesh, reviewed the progress of the ambitious ₹500 crore DJ Medicity project during a meeting with Rhitik Jassar, Chairman of the Jassar Dental Medical Education Health Foundation (JDMEHF) and DJ Group of Institutions.
Held in Lucknow, the meeting focused on the vision, implementation roadmap and future potential of DJ Medicity, an integrated medical college and teaching hospital being developed in Modinagar to strengthen access to quality healthcare and medical education in western Uttar Pradesh.
ACS Appreciates Vision for Medical Education
During the interaction, Amit Kumar Ghosh reviewed the progress of the project and appreciated its objective of addressing the growing demand for quality healthcare and medical education in a region that continues to face significant healthcare gaps.
He also acknowledged the contribution of the DJ Group of Institutions, which has been engaged in healthcare education in Uttar Pradesh since 1997.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ghosh said, “The Government of Uttar Pradesh continues to encourage quality investments in medical education and healthcare infrastructure. The DJ Group of Institutions has made a meaningful contribution to healthcare education in the state over the past three decades.”
He further praised the leadership of Chairman Rhitik Jassar, stating that it was encouraging to see a young entrepreneur carrying forward the vision of Founder Chairman Sardar Ajit Singh Jassar with commitment and purpose.
He added that while many young professionals choose opportunities abroad, Rhitik Jassar had decided to invest in his home state, describing such institution-building initiatives as important for Uttar Pradesh’s vision of becoming a US$1 trillion economy and for strengthening medical education through initiatives such as ‘One District, One Medical College.’

Project Nears Operational Milestone
The meeting comes months after the foundation stone of DJ Medicity was laid on February 8, 2025, by former Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, IAS.
According to the project team, the integrated teaching hospital is now nearing completion, with partial operationalisation proposed for September 15, 2026, coinciding with the 70th birth anniversary of Founder Chairman Sardar Ajit Singh Jassar.
Planned as a Comprehensive Medical Ecosystem
DJ Medicity is being developed as an integrated healthcare, education and research campus with a planned capacity of 1,205 hospital beds, including 605 beds in the first phase.
The institution is proposed to offer undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and super-speciality programmes across multiple disciplines, including:
- Medicine
- Allied Health Sciences
- Nursing
- Law
- Management
- Science
- Technology
- Emerging interdisciplinary programmes
The campus has been masterplanned to accommodate more than 10,000 people and will also house advanced research centres dedicated to oncology, nuclear medicine, sports medicine and injury rehabilitation.
Designed by Leading Healthcare Experts
The project has been masterplanned by Creative Designer Architects (CDA), known for designing major healthcare institutions including AIIMS Guwahati, AIIMS Gorakhpur and AIIMS Bathinda, besides projects for leading private hospital groups such as Max Healthcare, Fortis Healthcare, Paras Health and Yashoda Hospitals.
Healthcare planning and operational strategy are being led by White Hawk Associates (WHA) with guidance from several experienced healthcare leaders, including:
- Bhavdeep Singh, former CEO of Fortis Healthcare and Reliance Retail
- Dr. Rajen Ghadiok, former Chief Medical Officer of Fortis Healthcare and former Chairman of Cardiology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital
- Ajay Vij, former CIO of Fortis Healthcare and Reliance Retail
- Gurjit Singh, former CEO of Sakra World Hospital and Senior Director at Alvarez & Marsal
The advisory team is overseeing hospital planning, operations and medical technology integration.
Rhitik Jassar Outlines Long-Term Vision
Speaking after the meeting, Chairman Rhitik Jassar said the project reflects his father’s long-standing vision of transforming Modinagar into a destination for quality healthcare and medical education.
“DJ Medicity represents my father’s vision of transforming Modinagar into a destination for quality healthcare and medical education. Our focus is to build an institution that combines clinical excellence, medical education and patient-centric care while serving the healthcare needs of an underserved region.”
He thanked the Uttar Pradesh Government for its continued guidance and encouragement in taking the project forward.
Employment and Economic Impact
The ₹500 crore project is expected to generate approximately 3,000 direct and 10,000 indirect employment opportunities.
Besides expanding access to advanced healthcare in western Uttar Pradesh, the project aims to strengthen medical education capacity and attract significant private investment into the state’s healthcare and higher education sectors.
The initiative also aligns with the Uttar Pradesh Government’s broader efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure and increase the number of medical education institutions across the state.
