Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Social Welfare Department is expanding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) from education initiatives to the monitoring and delivery of welfare schemes, with pensions, family benefits and scholarships among the areas being brought into the technology-driven framework.
The department has already introduced AI-enabled initiatives in Sarvodaya Vidyalayas and is now working towards wider use of AI in welfare administration, according to the Uttar Pradesh government’s Information & Public Relations Department.
The move is aimed at strengthening verification, monitoring and data analysis in welfare programmes while improving the delivery of benefits to eligible beneficiaries.
AI-Based Verification Planned for Welfare Schemes
The Social Welfare Department is preparing to use AI-based tools for examining beneficiary and application-related information under key schemes.

The planned applications include:
- Old-age pension
- National Family Benefit Scheme
- Scholarship schemes
- Verification and analysis of beneficiary-related records
- Monitoring of applications and disbursement patterns
AI-based certificate verification is being planned for pension and family-benefit applications, while scholarship data is expected to be analysed to strengthen monitoring of applications and payments.
The use of automated analysis is expected to help officials identify discrepancies and cases requiring closer scrutiny, while reducing manual workload in processing and monitoring welfare applications.
Sarvodaya Vidyalayas Already Using AI-Enabled Learning
The department’s AI initiatives have already extended into education through Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalayas.
The technology-based initiatives include:
- Smart classrooms
- Digital learning content
- 3D video-based learning
- AI-powered language learning laboratories
- Training in digital creativity and AI-related skills
The programme is also being extended towards digital and AI skills for students, with the department looking to familiarise young learners with emerging technologies.
Focus on Technology-Driven Welfare Administration
The expansion marks a shift towards using AI not only as an educational tool but also as part of welfare administration.
By applying AI to document and certificate verification, beneficiary data analysis and scheme monitoring, the department aims to strengthen scrutiny of applications and improve the tracking of welfare delivery.
The initiative forms part of Uttar Pradesh’s wider push towards emerging technologies. The state’s 2026 policy framework also identifies AI and other emerging technologies as areas for development and adoption.
