UP Cabinet Approves ₹26,000 Crore Vindhya Expressway and 117 Km Vindhya-Purvanchal Link Expressway

CM Yogi Adityanath-led Cabinet clears 333 km and 117 km expressway projects to boost connectivity, regional development, and infrastructure growth in Uttar Pradesh.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved 18 major proposals during its meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residence on Kalidas Marg, Lucknow.

The key decisions include approval for two major expressway projects, a new scooter scheme for meritorious girl students, women hostel development, electric bus procurement, fire safety equipment, and other administrative proposals.

The Cabinet also approved the schedule for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Monsoon Session, which will be held from August 3 to August 6.

₹26,000 Crore Vindhya Expressway Approved from Prayagraj to Sonbhadra

One of the biggest decisions taken by the Cabinet was the approval of the 333-km Vindhya Expressway.

Key details of the project:

  • Route: Prayagraj to Sonbhadra
  • Length: 333 km
  • Estimated Cost: ₹26,000 crore

The expressway is expected to improve connectivity in the Vindhya region, boost economic activities, and provide faster movement of people and goods.

117 Km Vindhya-Purvanchal Link Expressway to Connect with Purvanchal Expressway

The Cabinet also approved the Vindhya-Purvanchal Link Greenfield Expressway.

Project details:

  • Length: 117 km
  • Estimated Cost: ₹9,039 crore
  • Districts Covered: Ghazipur, Mirzapur and Chandauli

The project will connect the Vindhya region with the Purvanchal Expressway, strengthening the state’s expressway network.

The total cost includes:

  • ₹5,628 crore for construction work
  • Funds for acquisition of around 1,731 hectares of land

Agra-Lucknow and Purvanchal Expressway Link Project Approved

The Cabinet also approved the proposal for connecting the Agra-Lucknow Expressway with the Purvanchal Expressway.

The project will be developed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode, and the process for selecting developers has also been approved.

A separate proposal for a 1.18 km diversion on the Purvanchal Expressway was also cleared due to residential structures coming in the existing route alignment.

The government said there will be no increase in the project cost due to this diversion.

₹400 Crore Rani Lakshmibai Scooty Scheme for Girl Students

The Cabinet approved the Rani Lakshmibai Scooty Scheme under the Higher Education Department to promote women empowerment.

Under the scheme:

  • Top five girl students from every college will receive scooters
  • Around 50,000 female students are expected to benefit
  • A budget of ₹400 crore has been allocated

The initiative aims to improve mobility and encourage higher education among female students.

Research Chairs to Promote Indian Knowledge Tradition

The Cabinet approved the establishment of research chairs in universities and colleges to promote Indian knowledge traditions.

Under the proposal:

  • Universities can receive funds up to ₹2 crore
  • Colleges can receive funds up to ₹1 crore

The funding will be placed in fixed deposits, and the interest generated will be used for research activities.

Eligible institutions include:

  • Colleges older than 50 years
  • Colleges with a capacity of more than 5,000 students

The government also plans to encourage support through CSR and other contributions.

New Women Hostels Approved in Universities

The Cabinet approved the construction of new women hostel facilities.

At Basant Women University, Varanasi, a new hostel will be built with:

  • Capacity: 112 female students
  • Cost: ₹2.48 crore

The university has already been operating for 12 years and currently has a hostel facility with a capacity of 220 students.

CM Shramjeevi Hostel to Come Up in Varanasi

The government also approved the construction of a CM Shramjeevi Hostel in Varanasi.

Details:

  • Land area: 6,000 square metres
  • Capacity: 500 students

Similar projects have already been approved in:

  • Jhansi
  • Meerut
  • Agra
  • Gorakhpur

An amount of ₹83 crore has already been approved for these projects.

UP Monsoon Session Scheduled from August 3 to 6

The Cabinet approved the schedule for the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Monsoon Session.

The session will be held from:

August 3 to August 6

During the session, the state government will complete legislative work and present the supplementary budget.

220 Electric Buses to Be Added to UP Transport Fleet

The Cabinet approved the purchase of 220 electric buses for the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation.

Key details:

  • Total investment: ₹400 crore
  • Bus categories: 50-seater and 42-seater electric buses

The move aims to promote cleaner transportation and improve public transport facilities.

Fire Department to Get New Water and Foam Tankers

To strengthen emergency response services, the Cabinet approved the purchase of:

  • 44 water tankers
  • 5 foam tankers

These vehicles will help firefighters reach areas where larger emergency vehicles face difficulties.

OutSourcing Nigam Portal Gets ₹20 Crore Support

The Cabinet also approved financial support for the OutSourcing Nigam portal and staff salaries.

A provision of ₹20 crore has been allocated, while repayment arrangements will begin after five years with an annual payment of ₹2 crore.

UP Government Expands Infrastructure and Welfare Push

The latest Cabinet decisions reflect the Uttar Pradesh government’s focus on:

  • High-speed road connectivity
  • Women empowerment
  • Education infrastructure
  • Clean transport
  • Public safety
  • Administrative reforms

With major expressway projects and welfare initiatives receiving approval, the state government aims to accelerate infrastructure growth and improve public services across Uttar Pradesh.
