Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved the purchase of 25 lakh tablets for eligible youth under the Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Scheme. The tablets will be distributed free of cost to beneficiaries pursuing education and skill development programmes across the state.

The proposal was approved during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Following the approval, purchase orders will be issued to institutions selected through the tender process for supplying the devices.

25 Lakh Tablets to Be Distributed Free of Cost

Under the initiative, eligible youth will receive tablets to support their education, training and access to digital resources.

The scheme covers young people pursuing:

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
  • Diploma courses
  • Technical education
  • Skill development training
  • ITI programmes
  • Health education
  • Other eligible educational and training programmes

The government expects the distribution of tablets to improve access to digital learning resources and strengthen the employability skills of young people.

₹2,374.60 Crore Budget Provision for FY27

The Swami Vivekananda Youth Empowerment Scheme has been implemented for five years.

For the financial year 2026-27, the Uttar Pradesh government has made a budget provision of ₹2,374.60 crore for the scheme.

According to the government, each tablet is expected to be purchased at a cost of around ₹17,000.

UP Has Already Distributed Around 60 Lakh Devices

The latest approval adds to the state’s ongoing efforts to provide digital devices to young people.

So far, the Uttar Pradesh government has distributed around 60 lakh tablets and smartphones to eligible youth under the scheme.

The expansion is aimed at enabling students and trainees to access online educational content, digital resources and other learning opportunities.

Who Will Benefit From the Scheme?

Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said that registered youth associated with several education and training streams have been included under the scheme.

These include students and trainees connected with:

  • Higher education
  • Technical education
  • Health education
  • Skill development programmes
  • Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs)

The initiative is designed to provide digital support to young people during their education and professional training.

Government Also Focuses on Employment Opportunities

The Cabinet’s decision on tablets came on the same day that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced at a job appointment letter distribution programme that one million jobs would be provided within six months.

The government has been focusing on both employment generation and skill development, with digital access being positioned as an important component of improving youth employability.

The latest tablet distribution initiative is expected to complement these efforts by providing eligible youth with greater access to digital learning and training resources.
