Sudhanshu Nayak, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of 2021 batch and currently posted as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Kanpur Police Commissionerate, has decided to resign from his position and pursue training for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration ( LBSNAA) in Mussoorie, starting December 1.

Nayak, who was selected for the IAS through the UPSC examination of 2018, faced a delay due to a court case, but after it was resolved, he was allocated to the 2019 batch of the IAS under the Uttar Pradesh (UP) cadre. He had joined the UP Police as an IPS officer, following his selection in the 2020 UPSC examination.

A known for his simplicity and intelligence, Nayak’s decision to switch to the IAS marks a significant milestone in his career. He will soon be relieved from his duties as ACP and proceed to Mussoorie for his training.

This development comes amidst a larger trend in the Uttar Pradesh bureaucracy, as the IAS batch of 2019 continues to expand. Currently, 17 officers from this batch are serving in the state, with Nayak’s entry raising the total to 18, including nine women IAS officers. Notably, previous entries into the UP cadre from this batch include IAS officers Aparajita Singh and Sanya Chhabra, both of whom joined after marriage to IPS officers.

Additionally, a woman IAS officer from Bihar is expected to join the UP bureaucracy soon, following her marriage to an IPS officer, further highlighting the evolving dynamics within the administrative services of Uttar Pradesh.
