UPSC CSE-2023 Prelims Was Tough, Cut-Off May Go Down, Say Aspirants & Experts

After the examination, expert says that the GS 1 was difficult than last year. So the cut off is expected to go down a little.

The Civil Services Examination Preliminary (CSE)-2023 was organized across the country on Sunday by the the Union Public Service Commission. The examination was conducted in two shifts. The General Studies paper was held in the first shift from 9.30 am, while the C-SAT paper was held in the second shift from 2.30 pm.

After the examination, experts say that the GS 1 was difficult than last year. So the cut off is expected to go down a little. While many aspirants were also claiming that CSAT was very tough and analytical this time.

The students who appeared in the exam told Indian Masterminds that the level of the question paper this year was difficult as compared to the previous year’s question paper and they hope the cutoff would be around 85 to 90.

In General Studies paper more questions related to current affairs and politics were asked. Apart from this, there were questions based on science, technology, recent research and development. History questions though were easy.

According to the experts, only NCERT pattern questions have been asked in the exam. Questions ranging from President to Fundamental Rights, Modern India, Central India and Ancient India, as well as questions related to constitutional institutions were also asked.

Sarmad Mehraj, Teacher and VP, Product (UPSC) at BYJU’S told the media that the general studies paper 1 was difficult compared to last year. So the cut off is expected to go down a little. Last year, it was 88.22. But, this year it is expected to be in the range of 82-85.

This year, there are around 1,105 vacancies, which is more than last year.

Successful candidates in the preliminary examination will appear in the main examination on September 15, 2023.
