Lucknow: Under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, the Government of Uttar Pradesh is pushing ahead with a series of large-scale infrastructure projects that are reshaping the state’s economic and development landscape.
From new expressways and metro networks to high-speed rail corridors, a world-class film city and clean energy investments, these projects are expected to improve connectivity, attract investment, generate thousands of jobs and position Uttar Pradesh as one of India’s fastest-growing economic hubs.
1. UPEIDA’s Plan to Build 11 New Expressways by 2029
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is preparing an ambitious roadmap to develop 11 new expressways by 2029.
The expanded road network is expected to:
- Improve long-distance travel across the state
- Strengthen industrial and logistics corridors
- Boost real estate growth along major routes
- Enhance safety and freight efficiency
Key regions expected to benefit include the Yamuna Expressway belt, Bundelkhand and Purvanchal.
2. Delhi–Meerut RRTS to Boost Connectivity with Western Uttar Pradesh
The 82-km Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), with trains operating at speeds of up to 160 km/h, is set to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh.
The project will improve daily commuting, support business mobility and strengthen regional economic integration.
3. Delhi–Varanasi Bullet Train to Cut Travel Time to Under Three Hours
The proposed 958-km Delhi–Varanasi High-Speed Rail Corridor is expected to transform long-distance travel in North India.
Designed for speeds of 320–360 km/h, the corridor could reduce travel time between Delhi and Varanasi to less than three hours, while connecting several important cities in Uttar Pradesh.
The project is expected to boost tourism, trade and urban development along the route.
4. Metro Expansion in Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra
Urban transport infrastructure is expanding rapidly with ongoing metro development in Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra.
The metro projects are expected to:
- Reduce traffic congestion
- Improve daily commuting
- Lower pollution levels
- Modernize public transport systems
These networks are helping transform major cities into more efficient and sustainable urban centres.
5. Noida Film City and Green Energy Projects
Noida International Film City
Spread over 780 acres near the Yamuna Expressway, the upcoming film city in Noida is designed to become a major hub for media, entertainment and content production.
The project is expected to create substantial employment opportunities and position Uttar Pradesh as a leading destination for the film and digital content industry.
Clean Energy Investments
The state is also investing in hydrogen plants, solar units and hydro projects aimed at generating clean energy and creating an estimated 8,000 jobs, while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Uttar Pradesh Emerging as a Major Economic Growth Engine
These mega projects are attracting domestic and international investments across infrastructure, manufacturing, logistics, real estate and technology.
Officials believe that improved connectivity, world-class transport systems and large-scale industrial development will further strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s position as one of India’s most dynamic economic centres.
