Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone of a new international cricket stadium at Tal Nadur on the Gorakhpur–Varanasi highway. The project, estimated at ₹393 crore, is being developed over 46 acres and is expected to be completed within 19 months.
The stadium will have a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators and is aimed at boosting sports infrastructure in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Landmark Sports Project in Gorakhpur
The foundation stone was laid in the presence of Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Uttar Pradesh Sports Minister Girish Chandra Yadav, and senior officials.

- Total cost: ₹393 crore
- Land area: 46 acres
- Seating capacity: 30,000 spectators
- Completion target: 23 December 2027
- Construction duration: 19 months
The project is being seen as a major step toward developing Gorakhpur as a sports hub.

Dream Project of CM Yogi Adityanath
The international cricket stadium is considered one of the flagship development projects of CM Yogi Adityanath.
Key highlights:
- Construction work began on 24 December 2025
- Around 7% work already completed
- First phase funding of ₹63.39 crore released
- Executed by Public Works Department (Building Division)
Officials confirmed that the project is progressing as per schedule.
World-Class Facilities at the Stadium
The upcoming stadium will feature modern international-standard infrastructure:
- 7 playing pitches and 4 practice pitches
- East and West stands with 14,490 seats each
- VIP pavilion for 208 guests and media seating for 382
- South pavilion with 1,708 VIP/VVIP seats
- Four high-mast floodlights for night matches
- Facilities for multi-purpose sports and large events
The stadium will support both cricket and other major sporting and cultural events.

Excellent Connectivity for Players and Fans
The stadium is strategically located for easy access:
- Connected to Gorakhpur–Varanasi four-lane highway
- Around 24 km from Gorakhpur Airport
- Around 20 km from the railway station
This ensures smooth connectivity for players, officials, and spectators.
₹100 Crore CSR Funding from Oil PSUs
The project is also being supported by corporate social responsibility (CSR) funding from major oil companies:
- Indian Oil Corporation Limited: ₹60 crore
- Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited: ₹30 crore
- Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited: ₹10 crore
Total CSR contribution: ₹100 crore
Announcement of Sports Complex Expansion
CM Yogi Adityanath also announced a major expansion plan:
- 60 acres reserved for a world-class sports complex
- Facilities for indoor and outdoor sports including hockey
- Development of sports training and recreational infrastructure
The government expects the project to boost tourism, hospitality, and employment in the region.
Boost to Employment and Regional Development
The Chief Minister said the development will transform the region by:
- Creating new job opportunities
- Promoting sports tourism
- Expanding hotels, restaurants, and markets
- Strengthening urban infrastructure
He added that the area, once underutilized, is now being transformed into a major development zone.
