Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) is planning to modernise five bus stations in Lucknow and the National Capital Region (NCR), with proposed facilities including air-conditioned waiting halls, digital displays, restaurants, hotels and shopping outlets.

Under the first phase of the proposed plan, two bus stations in Lucknow and three in the NCR region will be developed with improved passenger amenities and modern infrastructure. The locations identified in the source include Lucknow, Noida, Khurja and Bulandshahr.

The initiative aims to upgrade bus station infrastructure and improve the facilities available to passengers travelling by road across the state.

AC Waiting Halls, Restaurants and Digital Displays Planned

The proposed modernisation plan envisages a range of passenger facilities designed to make bus stations more comfortable and convenient.

Key amenities planned at the upgraded bus stations include:

  • Passenger facilities: Air-conditioned waiting halls, improved seating arrangements and modern ticket counters.
  • Digital information systems: Digital displays to provide travel and bus-related information.
  • Food and accommodation: Restaurants, coffee shops, fast-food outlets and hotels.
  • Retail and essential services: Shops, medical stores, banks and ATMs.
  • Sanitation: Clean and well-maintained public toilets.
  • Transport connectivity: Dedicated stands for taxis and auto-rickshaws, along with parking facilities.
  • Electric mobility: Charging infrastructure for electric buses.
  • Safety and security: Police booths and fire-safety arrangements.

The facilities are proposed as part of a broader effort to improve the infrastructure and passenger experience at selected bus stations.

Private Companies to Develop Bus Stations Under 90-Year Leases

The proposed model envisages private companies financing the development of the selected bus stations. In return, the companies would receive leases for the bus station properties for a period of 90 years.

According to the source report, the proposal is expected to be placed before the state Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, for approval.

Further steps in the process would follow if the proposal receives the required approval.

Modernisation Work Already Underway at 23 Bus Stations

Separately, modernisation work is already underway at 23 bus stations across Uttar Pradesh, according to the source report.

The locations mentioned include Vibhuti Khand, Charbagh and Amausi in Lucknow. The report states that the ongoing construction work is expected to be completed within the year.

The existing projects are separate from the newly proposed plan to develop five bus stations through private investment.

UPSRTC Expects Initial Revenue of ₹207.67 Crore

The transport corporation expects the proposed arrangement to generate initial revenue of ₹207.67 crore, according to the source report. The department is also expected to receive fees annually thereafter.

The proposed model combines private-sector investment with long-term leasing of public transport properties. Its implementation, however, depends on the necessary government approval and subsequent procedural steps.

The planned upgrades would introduce additional passenger facilities at the selected locations, while the separate modernisation programme covering 23 bus stations continues.
