Dehradun: In a significant move for grassroots welfare workers, the Pushkar Singh Dhami government has announced a salary hike for Anganwadi workers across the state. The decision is expected to benefit more than 36,000 Anganwadi employees, bringing relief after a long gap since the last revision in May 2021.

The announcement was made during a special session of the Uttarakhand Assembly, signaling the government’s renewed focus on strengthening frontline childcare and nutrition services.

Long-Awaited Increase After 2021

The honorarium of Anganwadi workers had last been increased in May 2021. With rising living costs and growing responsibilities, workers had been demanding a revision for quite some time.

Chief Minister Dhami acknowledged these concerns and assured that the revised salary structure will be implemented soon, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting Anganwadi staff.

Focus on Welfare and Grassroots Support

Anganwadi workers play a crucial role in implementing key welfare programs, including child nutrition, early education, and maternal healthcare at the community level.

The salary hike is seen as a step toward:

  • Improving worker motivation
  • Strengthening delivery of welfare schemes
  • Recognizing the contribution of frontline workers

Government’s Stand on Education and Inclusivity

During his address, CM Dhami also emphasized that education should not be a divisive issue in society. He stated that the government is committed to ensuring equal access to education for all, without discrimination.

He highlighted efforts to modernize education, including providing children in madrassas with access to:

  • Science and technology
  • Innovation and AI-based learning
  • Better academic infrastructure

Assurance of Future Support

Reaffirming his government’s stance, Dhami stated that previous increases in Anganwadi honorariums were also made under his leadership, and future demands will continue to be addressed.

He expressed confidence that Anganwadi workers trust the current administration to fulfill their expectations and improve their working conditions further.

Positive Impact Expected

The proposed salary hike is expected to:

  • Provide financial relief to thousands of workers
  • Enhance efficiency in welfare program implementation
  • Strengthen grassroots-level service delivery

With this move, the Uttarakhand government aims to boost morale among Anganwadi workers while reinforcing its broader commitment to social welfare and inclusive development.
