Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami urged students of Doon University to dream big, develop new skills and prepare for a rapidly changing technological future.

He made the remarks while inaugurating the university’s 2026-27 induction session and interacting with students on issues including employment, migration, higher education, artificial intelligence and Dehradun’s traffic.

New Facilities Inaugurated at Doon University

During the programme, Dhami inaugurated several new facilities:

  • Biological Sciences Laboratory Building built at ₹11.20 crore
  • Central Library constructed at ₹17.39 crore
  • Doon University Community Radio Station 88.4 FM

He also announced that the central library would be named after Dr BR Ambedkar.

The government will provide two electric buses for students. Foreign language departments teaching Spanish, German, French, Chinese and Japanese will also receive additional posts.

CM Dhami Focuses on Future-Ready Skills

Addressing students, Dhami stressed the need to keep pace with technological changes.

He said young people must develop skills that match emerging technologies and prepare themselves for the jobs and opportunities of the future.

The state is promoting artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data in universities and research institutions. A science city and an astro park are also being developed as part of the state’s focus on science and innovation.

Research Support for Young People

Dhami highlighted the government’s efforts to encourage research and higher education.

Under the state’s research promotion scheme, researchers can receive grants of up to ₹18 lakh.

The initiative aims to encourage young researchers to pursue innovative projects and contribute to the state’s knowledge and technology ecosystem.

Over 34,000 Government Jobs in Five Years

Employment remained another key issue during the interaction with students.

Dhami said more than 34,000 young people have secured government jobs over the past five years.

He attributed the recruitment progress to reforms in the recruitment system and the state’s anti-cheating law.

The Chief Minister also spoke about entrepreneurship and self-employment opportunities, particularly in areas linked to tourism, industry and local livelihoods.

Focus on Reverse Migration

Students also raised concerns about migration from Uttarakhand.

Dhami said reverse migration is gaining momentum, supported by government initiatives focused on entrepreneurship, self-employment, tourism, industry and local economic opportunities.

The approach seeks to create more livelihood opportunities within the state so that young people can build their careers without having to leave Uttarakhand.

Elevated Roads Planned for Dehradun Traffic

Traffic congestion in Dehradun was also discussed. Dhami said plans for elevated roads over the Bindal and Rispana rivers are being pursued to ease traffic and meet the city’s growing needs.

‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Message

Dhami also marked the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign by hoisting the national flag at his official residence.

He urged citizens to display the Tricolour while following the Flag Code of India and encouraged people to contribute to the country’s development.

For Uttarakhand’s students, the Chief Minister’s message linked education and technological preparedness with the wider goal of building a stronger future for the state and the country.
