Dehradun: Uttarakhand has stepped up work on a range of urban development projects across Haldwani and Udham Singh Nagar, with the focus on improving public facilities, upgrading city spaces and creating better infrastructure for residents.
Housing and State Property Secretary Dr R. Rajesh Kumar conducted an on-ground inspection of proposed and ongoing projects in Haldwani and Udham Singh Nagar and directed officials to maintain quality standards and complete works within Determined timelines.
The projects include the proposed beautification of major city intersections, development of D.K. Park, road-side greening, a proposed indoor and outdoor stadium in Rudrapur and the recently completed modern bus stand at Kichha.
City Intersections to Get a New Identity
One of the proposed initiatives focuses on giving prominent intersections in the cities a more attractive and distinctive appearance.
According to the state government, the planned improvements will also showcase Uttarakhand’s cultural identity and themes associated with women’s empowerment. The aim is to make important public spaces more visually appealing while reflecting the state’s heritage.
The projects form part of a broader effort to improve the appearance and usability of urban areas rather than limiting development to conventional road and building works.

D.K. Park to Get Open Gym and Green Spaces
Development and beautification work has also been proposed at D.K. Park near the Ramleela Ground in Haldwani.
The planned improvements are designed around public convenience and health. An open gym is proposed at the park, providing residents with an accessible space for outdoor exercise.
Green development is also planned along a roughly 200-metre stretch of road median in the Nariman area. Tree plantation and landscaping are proposed as part of the initiative.
Estimates for these works have already been prepared, while preparations for the tender process are underway. Tenders for the proposed works are expected to be invited during October.
This means the park and road-greening components are currently at the proposal and tender-preparation stage rather than being completed projects.
Proposed High Court Site Also Inspected
During the Haldwani inspection, officials also reviewed the land proposed for the High Court.
The officials briefed Dr R. Rajesh Kumar about the proposed site and related details. He directed departments to maintain coordination while taking the various projects forward.
The inspection was part of the wider review of proposed and ongoing infrastructure works in the region.
Rudrapur Stadium Plan Reviewed
The development review extended to Udham Singh Nagar, where officials inspected the proposed plan and layout for an indoor and outdoor stadium near Modi Maidan in Rudrapur.
Dr R. Rajesh Kumar directed officials to incorporate suggestions and modifications discussed earlier and move towards starting construction at the earliest.
The proposed sports infrastructure is expected to add another public facility to the area, although the project is still at the planning stage.
Kichha Bus Stand Already Operational
Unlike several of the proposed projects, the modern bus stand at Kichha has already been completed.
The facility was handed over to the Uttarakhand Transport Department on April 15, 2026. During the inspection, the secretary reviewed the completed construction and appreciated the quality of the work.
Its location is considered strategically important because it is near the AIIMS Satellite Centre and the proposed Pantnagar International Airport. This could make the bus stand an important facility for regional public transport and connectivity.
The project includes several passenger and public-use facilities, including:
Parking space for 48 vehicles
- 12 modern shops
- Toilet facilities
- An open gym
- A children’s play area
- Landscaping
Officials were instructed to complete the remaining finishing work within the prescribed timeframe and according to quality standards.
Focus on Public Facilities and Urban Spaces
The projects reviewed during the inspection cover different aspects of urban life, from transport and sports facilities to parks and greener public spaces.
The combination of open gyms, children’s areas, landscaping and improved intersections points towards greater attention to how residents use everyday city spaces. At the same time, infrastructure such as the Kichha bus stand is intended to strengthen public transport facilities.
The Rudrapur stadium proposal could further expand access to sports infrastructure, while the proposed improvements at D.K. Park would add recreational and fitness facilities.
Secretary Calls for Time-Bound, Quality Work
Dr R. Rajesh Kumar said the Chief Minister has directed that the benefits of development schemes should reach the public directly.
He said the purpose of the field inspections was to assess proposed and ongoing projects and ensure that they move forward with proper coordination.
Officials were instructed to complete works with both quality and timelines in mind so that residents can access the intended facilities without unnecessary delays.
The review in Udham Singh Nagar also covered important projects such as the bus stand, proposed stadium and parking-related infrastructure.
A Broader Urban Development Push
The latest inspections indicate that Uttarakhand’s urban development plans are looking beyond basic infrastructure to include public spaces, greenery, recreation, transport and cultural representation.
For residents, the impact will ultimately depend on how quickly proposed projects move from planning and tendering to actual construction and completion. The Kichha bus stand provides an example of a completed facility that is already part of the state’s transport infrastructure, while projects such as D.K. Park and the Rudrapur stadium remain at different stages of development.
As these initiatives progress, their focus on public convenience, urban aesthetics, greenery and connectivity could shape how Haldwani and Udham Singh Nagar’s growing urban areas serve residents in the coming years.
