Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the Yuva Sankalp Diwas programme at Rangers Ground in Dehradun on Wednesday, where he called on young people to take three resolutions related to personal goals, staying away from drugs and contributing to the state’s development.

The programme was organised on Dhami’s birthday, which was observed as Yuva Sankalp Diwas. The Chief Minister also visited a photo exhibition at the venue.

Dhami’s Three Resolutions for Youth

Dhami asked young people to make what he described as a “bouquet of three resolutions”:

  • Set a major goal: Work with dedication to achieve a significant goal in life.
  • Stay away from drugs: Avoid substance abuse and encourage friends and peers to do the same.
  • Contribute to Uttarakhand: After achieving success, use some of their knowledge, experience and abilities for the development of the state.

He also urged young people to become responsible citizens regardless of their chosen profession, including medicine, engineering, science, sports, teaching, entrepreneurship or public service.

Focus on Skills, Jobs and Entrepreneurship

Dhami said the state government was working to create opportunities for young people across education, skill development, employment, self-employment, startups and sports.

He said the government wants young people to have opportunities to pursue their aspirations without having to leave their villages or the state for employment. He also called for a shift from being only job seekers to becoming employment creators through entrepreneurship.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the changing employment landscape due to artificial intelligence, robotics, automation and digital technologies, and said the state was focusing on modern skills for future requirements.

State Youth Commission to Connect Youth With Policymaking

Dhami highlighted the formation of the State Youth Commission, saying it would provide a mechanism for incorporating young people’s concerns and participation into policymaking.

According to the Chief Minister, the commission will work on areas including:

  • Skill development and employment
  • Entrepreneurship and innovation
  • Digital empowerment
  • Awareness about drug abuse and cybercrime

Special Industrial Areas Planned in Three Hill Districts

Dhami said the government had decided to develop special industrial areas in Chamoli, Pauri and Almora to promote industrial activity and local employment in the hill regions.

He also pointed to tourism, homestays and local products as areas where the state is creating self-employment opportunities.

Youth Urged to Use Technology Responsibly

The Chief Minister urged young people to use mobile phones and digital platforms for learning and skill development. He also cautioned them to verify information circulating on social media rather than relying on incomplete or misleading content.

Dhami further called on youth to stay away from substance abuse and help raise awareness among their peers.

Focus on Sports and Transparent Recruitment

Dhami also highlighted the participation of Uttarakhand’s youth in national and international sports and referred to the state’s hosting of the 38th National Games.

On government recruitment, he said the state had implemented an anti-cheating law to maintain transparency in recruitment examinations. The Uttarakhand government’s official website lists the Prevention and Remedies Against Unfair Means in Recruitment Act, 2023 among measures adopted for recruitment processes.

The programme was attended by Cabinet Ministers Khajan Das and Ganesh Joshi, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP Uttarakhand president Mahendra Bhatt, Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, MLAs and other public representatives and officials.
