During the youth interaction, participants raised questions about employment opportunities, education, skill development and migration. They also shared their experiences with government schemes and offered suggestions on improving access to jobs and self-employment opportunities.

Nabin Calls for Shift From Job Seekers to Job Creators

He highlighted the role of central initiatives such as Digital India, Startup India, Skill India, Make in India and Khelo India in creating opportunities for young people. He also pointed to emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, digital technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Key points from Nabin’s interaction:

  • Emphasis on creating local employment and self-employment opportunities.
  • Greater focus on education and skill development.
  • Promotion of startups, entrepreneurship and innovation.
  • Use of technology and emerging sectors to expand career opportunities.
  • Youth participation in shaping Uttarakhand’s development.

Nabin also described migration from Uttarakhand in search of jobs and better opportunities as a serious challenge. He stressed the need to strengthen employment opportunities within the state, particularly through local entrepreneurship, tourism and other sectors linked to the region’s resources.

Dhami Highlights Government Jobs, Self-Employment and Skills

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said his government had accelerated recruitment to vacant government posts and claimed that around 34,000 young people had been appointed to government services since he took office in July 2021.

Dhami said that after assuming office as Chief Minister on July 4, 2021, his government had worked with the resolve that “the youth and water of the mountains should both serve Uttarakhand.”

Dhami also said the state was working to expand opportunities beyond government employment through self-employment, startups and entrepreneurship.

Initiatives highlighted by the Chief Minister included:

  • Chief Minister’s Self-Employment Scheme
  • Skill development programmes
  • Homestay-related opportunities
  • Chief Minister’s Udyaman Khiladi Scheme
  • Free coaching facilities for competitive examinations

He also referred to action against irregularities in recruitment examinations and said the government had taken measures against those involved in cheating rackets.

Focus on Sports, Technology and Investment

Dhami said Uttarakhand was also expanding opportunities for young people through sports, tourism, local products, science and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics.

He mentioned work towards establishing a Sports University in Haldwani and a women’s Sports College in Lohaghat. He also referred to the state’s performance at the National Games, where Uttarakhand athletes won more than 100 medals.

The Chief Minister further pointed to investment efforts following the state’s Investors Summit and said the government was working to expand industrial activity in the mountainous regions, with employment generation among the objectives.

The Haldwani interaction brought employment, migration, entrepreneurship and skill development to the centre of the discussion, with both leaders stressing the role of Uttarakhand’s youth in the state’s future development.
