Varanasi: In a major development boost for eastern Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath jointly unveiled development projects worth over ₹6,330 crore in Varanasi, marking a significant step toward transforming the city under the “New India” vision.

A total of 163 development projects were either inaugurated or laid foundation stones during the event held at the Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) ground.

163 Projects to Transform Varanasi’s Infrastructure

The projects span multiple sectors including urban infrastructure, transportation, tourism, and public services. According to officials, these initiatives aim to modernize Varanasi while strengthening its cultural and economic identity.

CM Yogi Adityanath described the initiative as a reflection of “development with trust and expansion,” stating that Kashi is becoming a symbol of India’s new growth model.

Launch of Two Amrit Bharat Express Trains

During the event, PM Modi flagged off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains, enhancing rail connectivity across multiple states:

  • Varanasi – Pune (Hadapsar) route
  • Ayodhya – Mumbai (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus) route

These trains are expected to improve travel for passengers from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, offering faster, safer, and more comfortable journeys.

Strong Multi-State Rail Connectivity Boost

The new train routes will connect major cities and railway hubs, significantly reducing travel time. The Varanasi–Pune train is expected to pass through key stations including Prayagraj, Jhansi, and Itarsi, strengthening north-south connectivity.

Officials said the initiative will further integrate India’s railway network and improve passenger convenience.

Focus on Women Empowerment and Social Welfare

Speaking at the event, PM Modi reiterated the government’s focus on women empowerment, stating that policies have prioritized safety, opportunity, and financial inclusion for women.

He highlighted that thousands of women in Varanasi are now part of self-help groups and many have become “Lakhpati Didis,” contributing to household and community income growth.

CM Yogi Highlights Development Under Double Engine Government

CM Yogi Adityanath credited the rapid development of Uttar Pradesh to the “double engine government,” stating that before 2017, the state suffered from poor infrastructure and law-and-order challenges.

He said the state is now witnessing:

  • Rapid infrastructure expansion
  • Improved law and order
  • Growth in investment opportunities
  • Strengthening of cultural and religious tourism

Massive Public Participation in Varanasi Event

The inauguration ceremony saw thousands of people gathered at BLW ground to witness the launch of development projects. Senior leaders, including the Governor and Union ministers, were also present at the event.

The large-scale participation reflected strong public interest in ongoing development initiatives in the region.

Varanasi at the Center of New India’s Growth Story

With the launch of ₹6,330 crore worth of projects and new express trains, Varanasi is emerging as a major hub of infrastructure, connectivity, and cultural development.

The initiatives are expected to strengthen regional integration, boost tourism, and accelerate economic growth across eastern Uttar Pradesh.
