Uttar Pradesh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the 594-km long Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district, marking one of the biggest infrastructure milestones in the state’s history. The mega project, built at an estimated cost of around ₹36,230–₹37,350 crore, is the longest expressway in Uttar Pradesh and is expected to transform regional connectivity and economic activity.
Massive Land Contribution by Farmers Across 12 Districts
The expressway has been constructed on more than 18,000 hectares of land, contributed by over one lakh farmers across 12 districts.
The route connects Meerut to Prayagraj, significantly improving travel efficiency and reducing the distance to just about 6–7 hours, compared to nearly double the time earlier.

Route Passing Through 12 Districts of Uttar Pradesh
The expressway passes through the following districts:
- Meerut
- Hapur
- Bulandshahr
- Amroha
- Sambhal
- Badaun
- Shahjahanpur
- Hardoi
- Unnao
- Raebareli
- Pratapgarh
- Prayagraj
It will also connect around 519 villages, making it one of the most extensive road infrastructure projects in the state.
PM Modi Calls It “New Lifeline of Uttar Pradesh”
At the inauguration ceremony in Mallawan, PM Modi described the expressway as the “new lifeline of development for Uttar Pradesh”, saying it will accelerate growth, investment, and connectivity across the state.
He also announced that the expressway will be extended further to Haridwar, strengthening its strategic importance.

CM Yogi Highlights Development Under “Double Engine Government”
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the expressway reflects the transformation of Uttar Pradesh under the “double engine government.”
He said the state, which once faced issues of crime and poor infrastructure, is now witnessing rapid development, including:
- Expansion of road networks
- Industrial growth corridors
- Defence manufacturing projects
- Improved law and order
Infrastructure Features and Economic Impact
The expressway includes several modern infrastructure features such as:
- A 3 km airstrip in Shahjahanpur
- EV charging stations along the route
- Food plazas and petrol pumps every 50 km
The project has been developed over five years and is expected to boost logistics, trade, and industrial development across the region.
Strong Political Messaging from PM Modi
During his address, PM Modi criticized the Samajwadi Party and Congress, accusing them of being “anti-development” and “anti-women.”
He also said that Uttar Pradesh had suffered under “family rule and mafia dominance” in the past, but has now become a model of improved governance and infrastructure development.
Massive Public Participation and National Significance
The inauguration saw large-scale public participation, including farmers who contributed land for the project. Parallel events were held across districts with live screenings attended by thousands of people.
The expressway, first conceptualized in 2021 and now completed, replaces the earlier longest expressway in the state, the Purvanchal Expressway (340 km).
A Game-Changer for Uttar Pradesh Connectivity
The Ganga Expressway is expected to become a major economic and transport backbone for Uttar Pradesh, reducing travel time, boosting regional development, and strengthening connectivity between western and eastern parts of the state.
With this project, the state moves closer to becoming a major infrastructure and industrial hub in northern India.
