New Delhi: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) concluded its Rajbhasha Pakhwada-2026 with a closing-cum-award ceremony at its headquarters on September 29, 2026. The fortnight-long programme was held from September 15 to 29 at the Cultural Building, Koila Vihar Colony.
The event witnessed participation from more than 300 employees and around 500 students, with a total of 107 awards presented for various Hindi-related competitions and activities.
WCL Organises Hindi Competitions and Activities
During Rajbhasha Pakhwada-2026, WCL organised more than 12 competitions and activities aimed at promoting the use of Hindi.
The activities included:
- Story writing
- General knowledge competition
- Extempore speech
- Antakshari
- Quiz competition
- Self-written poetry recitation
- ‘Read a Book, Give an Answer’ competition
More than 300 employees participated directly in the different competitions, while around 500 students took part in a special Hindi programme organised at Bharti Krishna Vidya Vihar School.

New Formats Introduced in Rajbhasha Pakhwada
Several competitions were organised in new formats for the first time this year.
The Quiz Competition featured 12 teams representing different floors of the WCL headquarters building instead of department-wise teams.
For the first time, Hindi slogan writing and drawing competitions for employees’ children were also organised. The ‘Read a Book, Give an Answer’ competition was another new initiative introduced during the programme.
A special Rajbhasha workshop for Hindi cadre employees was also organised on September 24 at the Indora campus.
107 Awards Presented at Closing Ceremony
The closing-cum-award ceremony was presided over by Dr. Hemant Sharad Pandey, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, WCL.
A total of 107 awards were distributed during the ceremony. The Rajbhasha Shield-2026 was also presented for outstanding work in Hindi throughout the year.
Dr. Hemant Sharad Pandey emphasised the importance of adopting Hindi and enriching it through collaboration with all Indian languages.
Bikram Ghosh, Director (Finance & Human Resources), WCL, encouraged employees to make Hindi a natural part of workplace communication, thinking and working practices.
WCL Rajbhasha Pakhwada Promotes Employee and Student Participation
The Rajbhasha Pakhwada-2026 concluded with active participation from WCL employees and students. The programme combined Hindi competitions, workshops and creative activities to encourage the wider use and promotion of Hindi.
The participation of more than 300 employees and nearly 500 students highlighted the involvement of both the workforce and the student community in the initiative.
