Kolkata: The West Bengal government has increased the monthly remuneration of para-teachers, special teachers, Shiksha Bandhu and other contractual workers working under the School Education Directorate and the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN) programme.

The revised remuneration covers contractual workers associated with the Paschim Banga Samagra Shiksha Mission (PBSSM), Paschim Banga Rajya Shishu Shiksha Mission (PBRSSM), School Education Directorate and PM POSHAN. The revised rates were approved by the Governor of West Bengal and notified through an official order.

The changes provide monthly increases across several categories, with para-teachers at the primary level, special teachers, Shiksha Bandhu and education volunteers among those receiving significant revisions.

Primary Para-Teachers to Get ₹16,941

Under the revised remuneration structure, para-teachers at the primary level will receive ₹16,941 per month, compared with ₹11,941 earlier.

This represents a ₹5,000 monthly increase. At the upper-primary level, the remuneration has also been raised by ₹5,000, from ₹15,523 to ₹20,523 per month.

The revision changes the monthly earnings of contractual teaching personnel working at different levels of school education in the state.

Special Teachers and Shiksha Bandhu Get Higher Remuneration

The government has also revised remuneration for special teachers and Shiksha Bandhu.

Special teachers will now receive ₹19,924 per month, up from ₹14,924. This amounts to a ₹5,000 increase.

For Shiksha Bandhu, the monthly remuneration has been increased from ₹9,954 to ₹14,954, also providing a ₹5,000 monthly hike.

The revisions cover workers who support school-level educational activities and community-linked functions under the state’s education programmes.

PBSSM Management Staff Also Covered

The remuneration revision extends beyond teaching personnel to management staff working under the Paschim Banga Samagra Shiksha Mission (PBSSM).

The increase varies according to the existing monthly remuneration of employees. Those receiving up to ₹25,000 per month will receive a ₹5,000 increase.

Those earning more than ₹25,000 and up to ₹40,000 will receive a ₹7,000 increase. Employees receiving more than ₹40,000 and up to ₹55,000 will get a ₹10,000 monthly increase.

This tiered structure means the revision provides different levels of additional remuneration depending on the existing pay category.

Shishu Shiksha Kendra Staff to Benefit

The revised rates also cover staff associated with Shishu Shiksha Kendra under the PBRSSM.

Assistant or assistant teachers of Shishu Shiksha Kendra will now receive ₹16,941 per month, compared with ₹11,941 earlier.

For Madhyamik Shiksha Kendra, instructors and assistant instructors will receive ₹20,523 per month, up from ₹15,523.

The heads of Madhyamik Shiksha Kendra will receive ₹22,178 per month, compared with ₹16,178 previously. This represents a monthly increase of ₹6,000.

Academic Supervisors and Programme Managers

The government has also revised remuneration for personnel involved in academic supervision and programme management.

Academic supervisors will now receive ₹18,781 per month, compared with ₹13,781 earlier. Their monthly remuneration has therefore increased by ₹5,000.

For district programme managers, the remuneration has been increased from ₹19,692 to ₹25,692 per month, also representing a ₹6,000 increase.

The revisions cover administrative and supervisory roles that support the implementation and monitoring of education programmes across districts.

Higher Pay for PA-cum-DEO and Contractual Teachers

The remuneration of PA-cum-DEO personnel under the PBRSSM has also been revised. Their monthly pay will increase from ₹14,774 to ₹19,774, a ₹5,000 hike.

Contractual teachers appointed for selected subjects at the higher secondary level under the School Education Directorate will now receive ₹20,218 per month, compared with ₹15,218 earlier.

The revision brings a ₹5,000 increase for this category as well.

PM POSHAN Education Volunteers Get ₹16,000

The remuneration revision also extends to education volunteers working under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN) programme.

Their monthly remuneration has been increased from ₹11,000 to ₹16,000, providing an additional ₹5,000 each month.

PM POSHAN is linked to school education and aims to support nutritional outcomes among children attending eligible schools. The revised remuneration therefore covers personnel associated with implementation of the programme at the local level.

What the Remuneration Revision Means

The latest decision affects a wide range of contractual education personnel across West Bengal, from classroom-based workers and special teachers to academic supervisors, programme managers and PM POSHAN education volunteers.

For several categories, the ₹5,000 monthly increase represents a substantial revision to existing remuneration. Other categories have received increases of ₹6,000, ₹7,000 or ₹10,000 depending on their existing pay levels.

The decision also brings different categories of contractual workers under a revised remuneration framework rather than limiting the increase to one particular group.

For education workers who support teaching, supervision, programme implementation and school-level activities, the revised rates provide higher monthly remuneration while recognising their continuing role in the state’s education system.
