Who Is IPS Rashmi Ranjan Swain, the New DGP of Jammu and Kashmir?

In a significant development, the Ministry of Home Affairs has officially appointed Rashmi Ranjan Swain, an accomplished Odia IPS officer from the 1991 batch, as the Director General of Police (DGP) for Jammu and Kashmir.

This appointment follows his tenure as the acting DGP since November 2023, succeeding Dilbag Singh upon his retirement.

Mr. Swain assumed office with immediate effect, marking the beginning of his tenure which is slated to continue until September 30, 2024, or until further orders are issued by the authorities.

He has less than two months remaining until his retirement, and he has been serving as the in-charge DGP for over nine months.

Mr Swain has had a distinguished career, including serving as Special DG CID and leading the police forces in both Jammu and Srinagar cities. With over 15 years on central deputation, he has held various crucial roles.

Originally from Rourkela city in Odisha, Swain has served as SSP in Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Poonch, and Ramban districts. He also served with the J&K Vigilance agency from 2004 to 2006 as Assistant Inspector General and Deputy Inspector General of Police.

His career highlights include a prestigious international posting reserved for officers recognized for their exceptional expertise.

As he takes on this pivotal responsibility, all eyes are on Rashmi Ranjan Swain to navigate complex security dynamics and uphold the integrity of law enforcement operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
