Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that around 9.5 lakh government appointments have been made in the state since his government came to power in 2017.
Adityanath made the statement while discussing government recruitment, employment and the functioning of recruitment agencies in Uttar Pradesh. He said reservation provisions have been followed during the recruitment process and that examinations have been re-conducted when irregularities were detected.
The claim comes amid a fresh recruitment push by the state government. On September 20, appointment letters were distributed to 818 candidates selected through the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) and Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC). The following day, appointment letters were given to 912 newly selected police personnel.
Yogi Announces 1 Lakh More Government Jobs
The Chief Minister has also announced that the state will provide government jobs to another one lakh youths within six months.
According to recent reports, the proposed recruitments include:
- 36,000 appointments in the Uttar Pradesh Police
- 41,000 Home Guard appointments
- Around 30,000 opportunities through the UPSSSC
The announcement would take the government’s stated recruitment figure to around 10.5 lakh if the additional appointments are completed.
Earlier, in August, Adityanath had said that more than 9.3 lakh youths had received government jobs through the state government’s recruitment process since 2017. At an appointment-letter distribution programme, he said another one lakh appointments would be made over the following six months.
Police Recruitment Accounts for a Significant Share
Government recruitment in the police department has formed a substantial part of the state’s recent hiring drive. In June 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah distributed appointment letters to 60,244 Uttar Pradesh Police civil constables in Lucknow. The recruitment involved more than 48 lakh applications, with the selected candidates chosen through the recruitment process.
Recent figures cited by Uttar Pradesh officials also put police appointments at more than 2.25 lakh since 2017, alongside more than 1.50 lakh teacher appointments and recruitment across health and medical education departments.
Recruitment Transparency and Examination Irregularities
Adityanath has linked the recruitment drive to changes in the state’s selection process. He said examinations found to have been compromised were cancelled and conducted again.
In his remarks, he also said that the government’s objective was to ensure that recruitment was based on a transparent process rather than influence or financial considerations. These are statements by the Chief Minister about his government’s recruitment record.
The state government’s latest recruitment announcements come ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, which is due next year. Recent reporting has noted that government recruitment has become a prominent part of the government’s public messaging.
