Unnao: In a unique spiritual initiative, nearly 1,000 inmates at the Unnao District Jail were given the chance to bathe in holy water from the Triveni Sangam at the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. This special gesture, led by Jail Superintendent Pawan Singh, allowed inmates to partake in a revered religious tradition, with over 800 prisoners joining the ritual.

This initiative, inspired by the ongoing Kumbh Mela, has since expanded across Uttar Pradesh, with plans to send holy water from the Sangam to 68 district jails and seven central jails across the state. A special team of messengers was dispatched from each jail to collect the sacred water for inmates to bathe in by February 21. The scheme is part of a broader effort, championed by state prisons minister Dara Singh Chauhan, to bring the sanctity of the Kumbh to prisoners, many of whom are experiencing the spiritual connection despite being behind bars.
Jail authorities have made special arrangements by setting up tanks and pools to mix the holy water. It’s believed that adding just a small amount of the sacred water to regular bathing water is enough to bestow the blessings of the Sangam bath. The ritual was carefully managed under the guidance of higher authorities, and a video showing inmates partaking in the ritual has gone viral on social media, capturing them performing collective rituals with fervor.

The Maha Kumbh, a significant Hindu spiritual event, has already witnessed millions of devotees taking the sacred dip in Prayagraj, and now, this initiative is ensuring that even those in prison can be a part of the holy tradition.
