As India won the semi-final match against New Zealand in World Cup 2023, the entire country, already in Diwali mood, erupted in joy. As people burst crackers, social media platforms were choked with congratulatory messages from netizens, cutting across political, religious, and ideological divides. Everybody just wanted to share their happiness with the Indian team, especially the man of the moment, Mohd Shami, whose 7 wickets tore apart the batting of the guest team.
As everyone took to social media to congratulate Shami, police forces across the country also took to their social media handles to spread some joy.
While congratulating the hero, they also gave people a glimpse of their humour and creativity. On X, UP Police called the win “Ye Sham Mastani”, and termed it “What a Shami-final in Won-khede!”

Soon after, Delhi Police tagged Mumbai Police and asked: “Hope you do not book Md Shami for tonight’s assault.”
Not at all @DelhiPolice. It qualifies for the protection under “Right of Self Defence”#India #IndianCricketTeam #IndiaVsNewZealand https://t.co/2EMKTKJQrB

To this, Mumbai Police replied: “You missed pressing charges of stealing innumerable hearts and listing a couple of co-accused too.”

P.S.: Dear citizens, both the departments know the IPC thoroughly and trust you for a great sense of humour 😊 https://t.co/TDnqHuvTZj
Mumbai Police then tagged Ahmedabad Police and asked them whether they were prepared to usher in the winning chariot, referring to the Indian team arriving in that city for the WC final.
Needless to say, such light hearted banter between the police forces of different states kept the netizens amused and added to their delight!
