Raipur: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai extended his best wishes to young mountaineer Sumita Srivastava from Janjgir-Champa ahead of her upcoming Mount Everest expedition. Sumita is set to depart for Kathmandu on April 9, 2026, determined to hoist the Indian tricolor atop the world’s highest peak.
A Journey Beyond Personal Achievement
CM Sai met Sumita at the CM Residence in Raipur, describing her mission as more than a personal feat. “This expedition reflects the aspirations, courage, and confidence of the entire state of Chhattisgarh,” he said. He praised her dedication, noting that with determination, no height is unattainable.
“Sumita’s efforts demonstrate that our daughters are setting new standards in every field, bringing pride to Chhattisgarh,” he added.

Previous Achievements Inspire Youth
Sumita previously scaled Mount Kilimanjaro in 2021 during International Women’s Day, showcasing her perseverance and skill. CM Sai said her continued commitment serves as an inspiring example for young people, especially girls, motivating them to pursue ambitious goals.
“I am confident that Sumita will succeed in planting the tricolor on Everest, bringing pride to Chhattisgarh and the nation,” CM Sai said.
From Humble Beginnings to Global Heights
Sumita, a native of Champa town, works as an Anganwadi worker, yet her ambitions reach unprecedented heights. Despite limited resources, she has undergone rigorous training and climbed numerous peaks across India. Her early education was in government schools, and she completed her college studies at MMRPG College.
Extensive Training and Certifications
Sumita began mountaineering in 2018, starting with a rock climbing course at Mount Abu, Rajasthan. She has since participated in various training programs and climbed peaks up to 5,500 meters in West and North Sikkim. She has also scaled UT Kangri in Uttarakhand, demonstrating exceptional skill and endurance in high-altitude mountaineering.
A Role Model for Future Generations
Sumita emphasizes the importance of thinking differently and daring to pursue challenging paths. “I always dreamed of doing something different,” she said. Her journey highlights how determination, training, and perseverance can enable individuals from ordinary backgrounds to achieve extraordinary feats.
