The 2000 batch IPS officer of Karnataka cadre Ms. D Roopa Moudgil is someone, many look up to. Speaking her mind and taking the right action without worrying about personal consequences or compromising on her principles, she has carved a niche for herself. Shee has been breaking the stereotypes associated with bureaucracts, especially a lady police officer and paid the price in the form of frequent transfers. In 20 years of service she has been transferred more than 40 times. This never impacted her efficiency on field because she believes there is scope of work everywhere.
Whether it is arresting Chief Minister of a state or exposing the alleged irregularities in Parappana Agrahara Central prison in Bengaluru, Karnataka in 2017, she did what she deemed right . In her detailed report she held that one of the inmates, AIADMK general secretary V K Shashikala was enjoying “luxurious services’’ in the jail, she never bow down to any pressure.
Apart from being a firebrand officer on field, she has an artistic heart. A winner of many beauty pageant, Ms. Roopa is also a trained dancer and singer. In the interview, she opened up about her future plans and initiative as the MD of Handicraft Development Corporation, Karnataka. She is focused on the betterment of artisans and improving corporation’s balance sheet. She also elaborated on what is women empowerment in real sense.
