Ranchi: Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDI), Ranchi, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Smile Train India to provide free cleft reconstructive surgeries to 200 underprivileged children in Jharkhand. The initiative will be funded through CMPDI’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) assistance during the financial year 2026–27.
The agreement was signed on October 9, 2026, at CMPDI Headquarters in Ranchi. Sanjay Kadambar, General Manager (HR/CSR), CMPDI, and Anjali Katoch, Head of Communications and Business Development, Smile Train India, New Delhi, signed the MoA.
Titled “Healthy Smiles, Healthier Tomorrow: Cleft Reconstructive Surgeries for 200 Underprivileged Children in Jharkhand,” the project aims to improve access to specialised healthcare for children with cleft lip and/or palate who reside within CMPDI’s command area across the state.
CMPDI and Smile Train India Partner for Free Cleft Surgeries
Under the agreement, CMPDI will provide CSR funding to support reconstructive surgeries for 200 eligible children from underprivileged backgrounds in Jharkhand.
All surgeries will be performed free of cost through Smile Train India’s designated and accredited treatment partner in Ranchi. The initiative is intended to help children access essential surgical care and improve their quality of life.
The partnership combines CMPDI’s CSR support with Smile Train India’s role in coordinating treatment and beneficiary assistance, enabling eligible children to receive comprehensive care without bearing the cost of the procedures.

Comprehensive Healthcare Support for Beneficiaries
The project will cover the major stages of treatment, from initial medical assessment to post-operative recovery and follow-up support.
The comprehensive care package will include:

- Surgical procedures: Cleft reconstructive surgeries for eligible children.
- Hospitalisation: Hospital care associated with the procedures.
- Post-operative care and medicines: Medical support and prescribed medicines following surgery.
- Follow-up support: Continued assistance to monitor recovery after treatment.
By covering these essential services, the initiative aims to make specialised cleft care accessible to children who might otherwise face financial barriers to treatment.

- Awareness Activities: Conduct awareness campaigns to identify eligible beneficiaries and inform families about available cleft care services.
- Beneficiary Outreach: Reach children and families who may need treatment but are unaware of the programme’s support.
- Implementation and Coordination: Smile Train India will oversee beneficiary support, treatment arrangements, documentation and reporting as per the MoA.
- Treatment Facilitation: The organisation will work with its designated treatment partner in Ranchi to help selected children access surgical services.
