New Delhi: Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (CMPDI) and the Quality Council of India (QCI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen sustainable mining, environmental governance, climate action, quality enhancement and capacity building in the mining sector.
The MoU was signed at QCI, New Delhi, by Punam Singh, General Manager (Environment), CMPDI, and Prof. (Dr.) Varinder S. Kanwar, CEO, National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET), QCI.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Chaudhari Shivraj Singh, CMD, CMPDI, and Chakravarthy T. Kanan, Secretary General, QCI, along with senior officials from both organisations.
CMPDI and QCI to Collaborate on Sustainable Mining
The partnership will enable CMPDI to strengthen its technical capabilities in areas related to sustainable mining, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), environmental governance and climate action.
CMPDI will also gain access to QCI’s quality frameworks, technical expertise and knowledge-sharing platforms. This collaboration is expected to support the adoption of robust methodologies and quality practices across mining-related activities.
The partnership will further strengthen CMPDI’s consultancy capabilities in emerging areas such as low-carbon and environmentally responsible mining.

Focus on GHG Accounting and Carbon Management
A key area of the MoU will be the development of technical capabilities related to Greenhouse Gas (GHG) accounting and carbon management.
The collaboration will also cover environmental and climate assessments, enabling CMPDI to expand its expertise in addressing emerging environmental and climate-related requirements in the mining sector.
These initiatives are expected to strengthen the technical and knowledge base required for more environmentally responsible mining practices.
Joint Studies, Research and Capacity Building
Under the MoU, CMPDI and QCI will work together on a range of technical and knowledge-based initiatives.
The collaboration will include:
- Joint technical studies and research
- Capacity-building programmes
- Environmental benchmarking

The MoU is expected to expand CMPDI’s consultancy capabilities in low-carbon and environmentally responsible mining.
By combining CMPDI’s mining-sector expertise with QCI’s quality frameworks and accreditation-related knowledge, the partnership aims to support the development and adoption of improved methodologies and standards.
The collaboration is also expected to strengthen CMPDI’s role as a comprehensive technical and knowledge partner for the mining sector.
QCI to Support Quality and Accreditation Frameworks
The Quality Council of India promotes quality standards and quality-related activities across different sectors. It undertakes accreditation, assessment and capacity-building activities through its constituent boards, including NABET.
Through the MoU, QCI will contribute its expertise and quality frameworks to support CMPDI’s work in sustainable mining, environmental management and capacity development.
