Nagaland: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IndianOil) has provided ₹58.08 lakh under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative for four Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances in Nagaland. In a parallel initiative, an apple cider vinegar (ACV) processing unit worth ₹50 lakh has been established at Thanamir village in Kiphire district under the Chief Minister’s Innovative Programme.
The two initiatives were launched during a programme held at the Integrated Business Hub and Innovation Centre (IBH&IC), Forest Colony, on Friday by Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav. The ACV processing unit was inaugurated virtually.
The initiatives aim to strengthen healthcare services, promote agricultural value addition and create livelihood opportunities, particularly in areas facing geographical and connectivity challenges.
IndianOil Funds Four BLS Ambulances for Healthcare Facilities in Nagaland
IndianOil’s CSR support of ₹58.08 lakh will provide four Basic Life Support ambulances to healthcare facilities across Nagaland. The ambulances will be allocated to the following institutions:
- Dhansiripar Community Health Centre (CHC)
- Medziphema Community Health Centre (CHC)
- Niuland Community Health Centre (CHC)
- Chümoukedima Primary Health Centre (PHC)
Addressing the programme, Governor Nand Kishore Yadav said the ambulances would strengthen last-mile healthcare delivery by enabling safer and more timely transportation of patients. He highlighted their importance for people requiring urgent medical treatment or referrals from peripheral health centres.
The governor expressed hope that the initiatives would encourage more public and private sector organisations to complement government efforts through CSR projects that deliver measurable social impact.

₹50 Lakh Apple Cider Vinegar Processing Unit Established in Thanamir
Under the Chief Minister’s Innovative Programme, an apple cider vinegar processing unit has been established at Thanamir village under Pungro in Kiphire district, with a sanctioned amount of ₹50 lakh.
The project includes supporting infrastructure designed to integrate agricultural production, storage, processing and value addition. Key facilities include:
- A five-metric-tonne outdoor, grid-connected cold storage facility
- Separate sanitation facilities
- Fencing and a gate
- Infrastructure to support the processing and value addition of locally produced apples
The unit is expected to help address challenges faced by apple farmers in Thanamir, where limited market access can result in produce going to waste.
Governor Yadav said Nagaland needs to move beyond selling raw agricultural produce and focus on processing, packaging, branding and market development. These steps, he noted, could help farmers secure better economic returns from their produce.
He also highlighted the importance of the Thanamir project in harnessing the agricultural and horticultural potential of Eastern Nagaland, where geographical barriers and limited connectivity have often restricted the conversion of local resources into economic opportunities.
Governor Stresses Value Addition and Market Linkages for Farmers
Yadav emphasised that infrastructure alone would not be sufficient to ensure the long-term success of agricultural processing initiatives. He stressed the need for adequate skills, technology, financial support and market linkages to enable farmers to benefit from the entire agricultural value chain.
He said farmers should not remain confined to producing raw materials but should also be able to participate in processing and other value-added activities.
The governor noted that the ambulance and ACV processing initiatives, although different in nature, shared a common objective of improving quality of life and promoting inclusive development in Nagaland.
Abu Metha Thanks IndianOil for CSR Support in Nagaland
Delivering a special address, Advisor to the Chief Minister and Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) Chairman Abu Metha thanked IndianOil for its CSR contributions to the state.
Metha said IndianOil had spent more than ₹3.5 crore on CSR activities in Nagaland over the past couple of years and was undertaking further initiatives to address development gaps at the grassroots level.
Referring to the ACV processing unit, he said the facility would help overcome some of the difficulties faced by apple farmers in Thanamir, particularly the wastage of produce caused by limited access to markets.
However, he stressed that additional efforts would be necessary to develop storage, processing, value addition and marketing facilities to ensure the initiative’s long-term sustainability.

IndianOil Executive Director and State Head Nitin Bhatnagar said the corporation had committed ₹3.82 crore towards development initiatives in Nagaland over the past 10 financial years.
The initiatives have covered several areas, including infrastructure development, education, healthcare, women’s empowerment and livelihood generation.
