‘Khaki Empowers Women’: IPS Officer Dr. Rajshree Singh

The 1999-batch IAS officer from Haryana, Dr. Rajshree Singh, believes that wearing Khaki infuses sense of power and strength in women. And doing this is also a surefire way of breaking many social barriers that stops them from being successful.

Wearing khaki was a dream she nurtured since childhood, even when she completed her graduation in ayurvedic medicine and surgery. Now when she is a senior IPS officer, Dr. Rajshri Singh equates khaki- especially for the women- with strength, determination, and free spirit.

Therefore, a large number of people were glued to their computers, laptops, and cellphone screens on Tuesday morning, as Dr. Singh, now IG Crime, Traffic and Highways, Haryana, addressed a webinar.

Her Beliefs

“For a long period now,’’ said Dr. Singh, “women have been considered as the weaker sex. There was a time when men used to go outside to earn and women looked after the house. Now, there have been significant changes in their roles but their mindset has not shifted. It will take years for everyone to accept that women can be so much more than just a housewife. To ensure that, more and more women should join the police force because the much-needed power (to women) comes with the job.’’

Dr Singh’s own life journey would be an inspiration for many. In 1990, she appeared for the Haryana Police Service and joined it as a DSP.  Recognizing her dedication towards the work, she was promoted as IPS in 1999.

Dr. Singh was promoted as IPS in 1999 and is currently posted as IG Crime, Traffic and Highways, Haryana

In her more than thirty years of service, Dr Singh took every possible challenge which spurs a woman to achieve big and prove that nothing is impossible for her.

Apart from a doctor and police officer, Dr Rajshree Singh she is also a poet and has published a book titled ‘ Adhkhili Dhoop’.

 In Tuesday’s webinar, she interacted with a number of people, including many girls who were preparing for various exams, and shared her success secrets with them.

Be prepared for personal sacrifices

There is no denying that women face a lot more challenges when they step out of their house to pursue dreams. Dr. Singh believes the same. “Women are designed to be more emotional, more so for their family. This is the reason which makes their journey in every profession way more difficult. Besides, the societal mindset also creates hurdles in their path. If I talk about policing, then it is 24-hour job. It demands lot of sacrifices on personal level and dedication as well,’’ Dr. Singh told the students.

She also shared one of his earlier experiences when her children were small. “I was posted in Kalka as DSP and both kids were very young. When I had to do patrolling in the area, I used to take them with me. That was a hilly terrain and my kids used to sit in the vehicle with blankets. When my husband (an army officer) came for a holiday, he also used to accompany me. I am blessed that I got their support, otherwise this would not be possible”, she said.

The 7 Ds

Dr. Singh also shared her ‘7 Ds mantra’ which is necessary for every individual preparing for any exam. She believes it is essential to success in life. The 7 Ds are

*Dream

*Desire

*Design

*Discipline

* Dedication
* Destination and
*Devotion.

These, she insists, are the essential D’s which, if absorbed in daily life, will prepare anybody for a life of success.
