In the bustling district of West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, a quiet revolution is underway. At the forefront of this change is IPS officer Adnan Nayeem Asmi, a 2013 batch officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, currently serving as the Superintendent of Police (SP). His mission? To enhance vigilance by preventing crimes before they occur and ensuring meticulous evidence collection. And he’s doing this by harnessing the power of technology.

In an exclusive conversation with Indian Masterminds, he shared details about the same.

A NEW ERA OF VIGILANCE

Adnan’s vision for West Godavari is simple yet powerful—leverage technology to maximize coverage, boost mobility, and improve overall efficiency.

“I am trying to use technology as much to the advantage. By integrating artificial intelligence tools, CCTVs, and drones, we can enhance surveillance and response time,” he told Indian Masterminds.

The cornerstone of this tech-driven approach is the strategic deployment of AI-powered monitoring systems. According to Adnan, this significantly expands the area that can be effectively covered.

“A single constable on duty can physically cover only a limited area. But with CCTVs and AI-powered monitoring, we can cover a much larger region,” he noted.

The real-time data provided by these systems not only helps in quick detection but also ensures that concrete evidence is available for investigations. “If a crime does take place, it helps us detect it quickly and ensures we have proper evidence for investigation,” he added.

TACKLING CYBERCRIME

In an age where digital threats are evolving rapidly, Adnan is also focusing on educating the public about the latest cybercrime modus operandi. From digital fraud to sextortion, his team is actively spreading awareness on both prevention and recovery methods.

“We’ve noticed a surge in cybercrimes, and it’s crucial for people to know how to safeguard themselves. But it’s equally important to know the steps to retrieve the amount and punish the guilty if they fall victim,” he explained.

Under his leadership, West Godavari has seen an increase in digital arrests and interventions, setting a benchmark for cyber vigilance. His proactive stance on digital safety reflects his commitment to safeguarding even the most vulnerable sections of the population.

THE POWER OF DRONES AND AI

One of the most innovative aspects of Adnan’s approach is the increased use of drones and AI, reducing dependence on manpower and acting as a force multiplier in crime detection and prevention.

“We get to know about crimes in real-time, enabling us to react swiftly. Also, potential criminals are deterred as evidence against them, admissible in court, is automatically generated,” he told Indian Masterminds.

This strategic use of technology aligns with the Chief Minister’s vision of “Visible Policing, Invisible Police,” ensuring that law enforcement is both proactive and discreet. By utilizing drones for aerial surveillance and AI for pattern recognition, Adnan’s team is setting a new standard for responsive policing.

CHALLENGES AND CHANGE

However, the journey hasn’t been without challenges. The rapid pace of technological advancement, coupled with an initial reluctance to move away from traditional policing methods, posed significant hurdles.

“The fast updation of technology was a challenge, and there was some resistance within the force. But with continuous updates and multiple training modules, we’ve been able to overcome it,” Adnan shared.

His commitment to continuous learning and adaptation has helped his team stay ahead of the curve, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle modern-day challenges.

EXPANDING COVERAGE AND CURBING NARCOTICS

Looking forward, Adnan has ambitious plans to further expand the technological coverage to all parts of West Godavari. “We aim to make it more public and user-friendly, ensuring every citizen feels safer,” he said. Additionally, there’s a renewed focus on combating narcotics usage, leveraging technology to track and curb illegal activities.

Through his tech-driven approach, he is not just enhancing vigilance but also building a safer and more secure community. As technology continues to evolve, his innovative methods are sure to inspire a new generation of law enforcement officers.
