During the pandemic, a large section of people started developing anxiety problems because of the constant stress of living under the fear of infection. And because gyms were closed and going for walks or runs were also not possible during the lockdown periods, many people turned to yoga to stay fit and healthy. Noting the positive effects of yoga on people’s mind and body and overall health, the District Collector of Bundi in Rajasthan started a campaign named ‘Nirogi Bundi’ to promote yoga in all gram panchayats.
In an exclusive interview to Indian Masterminds, Collector Renu Jaipal, IAS, shared details about the ‘Nirogi Bundi’ campaign.
THE CAMPAIGN
The ‘Nirogi Bundi’ campaign was started 15 days back by the Bundi District Collector through the health department. With door-to-door survey in the block level and gram panchayats, the administration is collecting information about people suffering from lifestyle diseases like diabetes or hypertension, and any other diseases. The survey also includes anaemic and malnourished children.
“After the survey, we are going to treat the people or will refer them to any hospitals if required. Apart from this we will organise yoga camps and ayurvedic camps in every gram panchayat of Bundi to help people with lifestyle diseases, get a good recovery rate among the patients, and help all to stay fit, said District Collector Renu Jaipal.
THE IMPACT
The administration could only organise two to three yoga camps till now due to the harvesting month. They are going to organise the camps again from 18th April.
Elaborating the benefits of yoga, Ms. Jaipal explained that the camps will impact people in different ways.
- Blood pressure patients will come to know the right exercise through which their BP will be maintained.
- Diabetics patients will get to know about the different identified yogas and exercises good for their health.
- People will get knowledge about the homemade ayurveda medicines that they can use for their different health problems.
“Apart from this, protein vatika will be set up in every house, so that people could get knowledge of what one can take to meet the deficiency of iron and protein. For this, we will master train the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) team, and they will educate people at the gram panchayat level about what type of food one should eat,” Ms. Jaipal said.
THE MESSAGE
In conclusion, she wanted to convey a message to everyone. “Yoga is well known amongst each one of us. It will be an important part of the ‘Nirogi Bundi’ campaign started for good health of Bundi residents. I encourage everyone to start doing yoga and stay fit. Fit Raho, Swasth Raho, Dodo Bhago, Yoga Karo!”
