Aishwarya Singh, presently an IRS officer under training, cleared the 2021 UPSC Exam with flying colours by securing AIR 97. Originally from Delhi, Aishwarya is 25 years old alumni of prestigious Lady Shri Ram College of Delhi University.
In her first attempt, she secured AIR 249 and joined as Assistant Commissioner (Officer Trainee). She has been undergoing training at National Academy of Customs Indirect Taxes and Narcotics, Faridabad.
IT STARTED IN THE FAMILY
Her dream to become a civil servant started with her family only. Aishwarya’s father Mr. Gyanendra Pratap Singh is an IPS officer presently posted as Special Director General of Police in Assam, in-charge of both Law and Order and Anti-Rhino Poaching Task Force. Her mother has a doctorate under her belt.
Aishwarya’s younger sister is pursuing her graduation from Hindu College, Delhi University.
Aishwarya told Indian Masterminds that she always idolised her father and wanted to join a central civil service. That has been her dream and passion. Her family has been her constant support as well as a source of inspiration and motivation.
NO COACHING
Aishwarya did not take any formal coaching for UPSC. She prepared on her own. Her optional was Political Science. She told Indian Masterminds that she was so engrossed in her studies that she never realised how her days went by. Her dedication and passion was such that her days melted into one another and years went by.
She took many test series as well as made a book list . She cracked the exam with sheer willpower, focus, dedication and hard work. Her mother has been one of her biggest motivators.
MOTHER’S INFLUENCE
After joining IRS, Aishwarya did not wish to take the third attempt but her mother motivated and cajoled her to give it another try. She says she is proud to have a mother like hers.
She prepared for her interview while undergoing training as an IRS officer. She wasn’t even aware when the UPSC results came out. She was at that time, at the IRS Academy training ground listening to the instructions of her PT trainer.
WOULD PREFER AGMUT
She says she is not worried about her Cadre, but would be happy if allotted AGMUT Cadre. “I am happy that the the struggle finally is over and the dream had been fulfilled”, she says adding now she can look forward to serving the people of her country.
Never attracted by social media, except occasional presence on facebook. To her, social media is more of a distraction for someone aspiring to compete and prepare for the CCS Exam.
TIPS FOR THE ASPIRANTS
Take breaks. Aishwarya believed in not burning out. She took her breaks and had a clear mind so that she could focus and give her 100%. She says if we stop taking breaks, we may frustrate ourselves and may not be able to live up to our full potential.
Aishwarya Singh is a true inspiration for all the civil services aspirants.
