New Delhi: In a significant boost to Gujarat‘s bureaucracy, the President of India has approved the appointment of 17 eligible members of the Gujarat State Civil Service to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) against vacancies identified under the Select List of 2025. The appointments have been made under the promotion quota in accordance with the Indian Administrative Service (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955.

Appointments Based on Select List 2025
According to the notification, the appointments have been made against vacancies determined by the Government of India under Regulation 5(1) of the IAS (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955, in consultation with the Government of Gujarat.
The officers have been allocated to the Gujarat Cadre under Rule 5(1) of the Indian Administrative Service (Cadre) Rules, 1954.
Officers to Remain on Probation
The notification further states that all newly inducted officers will remain on probation until further orders, as per the applicable provisions governing appointments to the Indian Administrative Service.
Significant Career Milestone
The induction marks a major career milestone for the 17 officers, who have earned elevation from the Gujarat State Civil Service to the Indian Administrative Service through the promotion quota mechanism. The process enables experienced state civil service officers to join the IAS based on their service record, seniority, and selection by the competent authorities.
The appointments reinforce the administrative leadership pool of the Gujarat cadre and provide experienced officers an opportunity to serve in higher policymaking and governance roles within the state’s administrative framework.
