Gandhinagar: Roadside boundary walls in Ahmedabad cannot exceed 1.5 metres in height, measured from the crown of the adjacent road, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) told the Gujarat High Court.
The issue came up during a petition challenging an AMC show-cause notice over the construction of a boundary wall without prior development clearance.
AMC Cites Gujarat Development Regulations
The civic body relied on Clause 21.1.1 of the Gujarat Comprehensive Development Control Regulations, 2017.
According to the provision cited before the court, a boundary wall along a roadside cannot be higher than 1.5 metres from the crown of the adjoining road, irrespective of whether prior permission is required for the construction.
The petitioner had argued that compound wall construction was exempt from prior development permission under the general provisions of the regulations.

Petitioner Agrees to Remove Excess Height
During the proceedings, the petitioner acknowledged that the existing wall exceeded the prescribed height.
The petitioner’s counsel assured the court that any portion above the 1.5-metre limit would be voluntarily demolished.
The petitioner also stated that there would be no objection to action by the AMC if the wall was found to exceed the permitted height under the applicable law.
Gujarat High Court Disposes of Petition
After hearing submissions from advocates representing both sides, the Gujarat High Court disposed of the petition as not pressed.
The proceedings highlighted the specific height restriction applicable to boundary walls located along public roads in Ahmedabad under the development regulations cited by the AMC.
