New Delhi: Mr. Anand Mohan has officially assumed charge as Director (Technical) of Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDI) on 11 May 2026. In his new role, he will lead key divisions including Research, Technology, and Business Development, along with other important departments of the organisation.
His appointment marks a significant leadership transition in one of India’s premier coal sector planning and design organisations.
Over Three Decades of Experience in Coal Sector
Mr. Mohan brings with him more than 36 years of extensive experience in the coal mining industry. Before joining CMPDI, he served in various senior positions across multiple subsidiaries of Coal India Limited, including:
- Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL)
- Central Coalfields Limited (CCL)
- Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL)
He began his career in 1989 at NCL’s Amlohri Project and has since worked across diverse operational and technical domains in the coal sector.
Strong Academic and Technical Background
Mr. Anand Mohan is a Mining Engineering graduate from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal (1989 batch). He further enhanced his qualifications by completing an M.Tech in Open Cast Mining from the erstwhile Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad (now IIT Dhanbad) in 2005.
He also holds the prestigious First-Class Mines Manager’s Certificate of Competency (DGMS), reflecting his strong regulatory and technical expertise in mining operations.
Expertise in Mine Planning and Digital Transformation
Over the years, Mr. Mohan has developed deep expertise in several critical areas of the coal mining industry, including:
- Mine planning and design
- Mining operations and project management
- Rehabilitation and resettlement
- Environmental management

His experience spans both operational and strategic leadership roles across multiple Coal India subsidiaries.
Global Exposure and Professional Recognition
Mr. Mohan has also participated in several prestigious international training programmes, including:
- Environmental Assessment and Management training at the University of Wales (UK) under the ODA Programme
- Advanced Global Management Programme with technical study visits across European countries
He is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India) and a Life Member of both MMEAI and MGMI, reflecting his active engagement with the professional engineering community.
