Patna: The Bhagalpur–Madhepura Mega Bridge project has reached its final stage, with 98.7% of the physical work completed. The 28.918-km bridge-cum-approach road is expected to open for public traffic by February 2027, improving connectivity across several parts of Bihar.
128 Bridge Spans Installed
The mega bridge is being constructed between Bihpur in Bhagalpur and Phulaut in Madhepura. Road Construction Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal said all 128 spans of the bridge have been successfully installed.
Construction teams are now focusing on expansion joints and other finishing works before the project is opened for public use.
₹1,478 Crore Project Connects Two National Highways
The project has an estimated cost of ₹1,478.40 crore and will provide a direct link between NH-31 at Bihpur and NH-106 at Phulaut–Udakishanganj.
Once operational, the bridge-cum-approach road is expected to reduce travel distances between Phulaut, Bihpur and Saharsa and make movement across the region easier.

The improved connectivity will benefit residents, farmers and traders by making transport faster and easier:
- Faster movement of people and goods.
- Easier transport of farm produce to markets.
- Better access to essential services.
- Smoother movement of emergency vehicles.
Boost for Regional Economic Activity
The project will improve connectivity between Bhagalpur, Madhepura and Saharsa, supporting regional trade and market access.
With most construction complete, the Bhagalpur–Madhepura Mega Bridge is expected to open by February 2027, strengthening regional connectivity in Bihar.
