Bihar to Provide Free Fish Farming Training to 9,685 Farmers Under 2026-27 Scheme

Bihar will provide free modern fish farming training to 9,685 farmers in 332 batches under its Fisheries Training and Extension Scheme for 2026-27.

Patna: The Bihar government will provide free training in modern fish farming techniques to 9,685 fish farmers and fishermen during the financial year 2026-27 under the Fisheries Training and Extension Scheme.

The Department of Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources has invited online applications for the programme. Eligible applicants can register through the department’s official website.

Training to Be Conducted in 332 Batches

The programme will train nearly 10,000 beneficiaries through 332 batches at recognised fisheries institutions located both within and outside Bihar.

The training will focus on modern fisheries technologies and fish farming practices.

Key provisions include:

  • 9,685 fish farmers/fishermen to receive training.
  • Training will be conducted in 332 batches.
  • The training itself will be provided free of cost.
  • Applicants will only have to pay the prescribed registration fee.
  • Travel allowance will be provided only to trainees travelling to training institutions outside Bihar.
  • No travel allowance will be available for travel to training centres located within the state.

The department said the scheme is aimed at providing fisheries farmers with knowledge of modern techniques and practices.

First-Time Trainees to Get Priority

Farmers receiving training for the first time will be given preference under the scheme. Those who have already undergone training can be selected again only after a gap of three years.

The registration fee is ₹250 for training at the Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Kakinada, while the fee for other institutions and centres is ₹100. The applicable fee has to be deposited at the concerned district fisheries office.

Who Can Apply?

The scheme is open to fisheries farmers meeting the specified eligibility conditions, including those involved in fish farming in private, leased or government ponds/water bodies.

Eligible applicants also include:

  • Active members of block-level fishermen cooperative societies.
  • Individuals intending to take up fish farming through bank loans or their own funds, provided they have applied to or been selected by the district fisheries office.
  • Fish farmers otherwise meeting the eligibility conditions prescribed under the scheme.

Interested applicants can submit their applications online through the Bihar Fisheries Department website. Detailed information on eligibility and the application process is available on the portal.
