Patna: The Bihar government has directed district administrations to expedite land identification and allotment for 143 newly established degree colleges that currently lack permanent campuses.

Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, a 1991-batch IAS officer of the Bihar cadre, issued the direction during a video conference with district magistrates on Tuesday to review the progress of major development projects and government schemes. The review covered higher education infrastructure, farmer registration, rooftop solar installations, Anganwadi buildings, TB screening and land-related work.

Land Sought for Permanent College Campuses

According to the review, land has already been allotted for permanent campuses for 68 colleges, while land remains to be identified and provided for the remaining 143 institutions.

Key points:

  • 211 new degree colleges have been opened in blocks without an existing degree college.
  • 68 colleges have received land for permanent campuses.
  • 143 colleges still require land.
  • District administrations have been asked to expedite land identification and allotment.

The meeting also examined progress under the state’s farmer registration drive.

Against a target of 86.36 lakh farmers, around 53.54 lakh farmers, or nearly 62%, had been registered at the time of the review.

The Chief Secretary directed the administrations of Saran and Jamui to conduct intensive campaigns to accelerate registration.

Rooftop Solar Installations Under Review

Progress in installing rooftop solar systems in private households was also discussed.

Officials reported that 1.22 lakh applications had been received for rooftop solar installations and associated equipment. Installation work is currently underway.

Patna recorded the highest subsidy disbursement, amounting to ₹72.94 crore, among Bihar’s districts.

Anganwadi Buildings, TB Screening Also Discussed

The review meeting covered the construction of Anganwadi buildings and progress in TB screening, along with other government programmes and development works.

Amrit directed district officials to ensure that development projects and land mutation work are completed within prescribed timelines.

He also asked departments to conduct monthly reviews and maintain coordination among the agencies involved in implementing various projects.
