Bihar’s Muzaffarpur Leather Park to Boost ‘Made in Bihar’ Products in National and Global Markets

Muzaffarpur: Bihar is emerging as a promising centre for the footwear and leather industry with the development of a Mega Leather Footwear and Accessories Park in Muzaffarpur.

The project is being developed by the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) at Mahual in Motipur, Muzaffarpur, with the aim of giving locally manufactured leather products a stronger identity in national and international markets.

The initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to promote industries, generate employment opportunities and encourage local manufacturing.

₹140 Crore Leather Park Being Developed Across 62.17 Acres

The Bihar government has approved the development of the modern leather park on around 62.17 acres of land at Motipur, Muzaffarpur.

The project is being developed with an investment of approximately ₹140 crore and is designed to provide world-class infrastructure facilities for leather footwear and accessories manufacturing.

The park will support entrepreneurs, manufacturers and workers associated with the leather sector by providing a dedicated industrial ecosystem.

Modern Infrastructure and Training Facilities at Leather Park

The Mega Leather Footwear and Accessories Park is being equipped with several modern facilities, including:

  • Advanced industrial infrastructure
  • Common Facility Centre (CFC)
  • Training centres
  • Production units
  • Dedicated manufacturing spaces

These facilities are expected to improve production capacity, enhance product quality and help local manufacturers compete in larger markets.

Leather Cluster Units Already Operational in Muzaffarpur

According to officials, production activities have already started in 24 sheds of the leather cluster.

The cluster is gradually creating employment opportunities for local communities, with more expansion planned in the coming years.

The government is also working towards further development of the leather sector through initiatives such as the Women Entrepreneur Scheme, which aims to encourage more participation from women in manufacturing activities.

Thousands of Employment Opportunities Expected

The leather park is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities in Bihar.

Officials said that more than 1,000 Jeevika Didis have already received employment opportunities through the leather cluster.

The project is expected to create additional jobs in areas such as:

  • Leather manufacturing
  • Footwear production
  • Accessories making
  • Skilled labour training
  • Supply chain and support services

Boost to ‘Made in Bihar’ Leather Products

The development of the leather park is expected to help Bihar establish a stronger presence in the footwear and leather market.

By providing modern facilities and supporting local production, the initiative aims to take “Made in Bihar” leather products to national and global markets.

The project also reflects the state government’s broader focus on industrial development, local entrepreneurship and employment generation.
