Patna: Bihar is exploring opportunities to expand its sugar industry and attract fresh investment, with Sugarcane Industries Minister Sanjay Kumar holding discussions with sugar mill representatives, investors and agricultural scientists during his visit to Madhya Pradesh.
The talks focused on establishing new sugar mills and jaggery units, improving sugarcane productivity and adopting successful practices from Madhya Pradesh.
Investors Discuss New Sugar Mills in Bihar
During a meeting in Agar Malwa, the minister discussed the possibilities of setting up new sugar mills in Bihar with sugar industry representatives and investors.
The discussions covered:
- New sugar mill projects
- Investment opportunities
- Expansion of the sugar industry
- Establishment of jaggery units
Nitin Goel of Durga Khandsari Sugar Mills and Abhishek Goel of Giriraj Sugar and Bio Energy Private Limited, among other industry representatives, met the minister during the discussions.
The meetings explored how private investment could help expand Bihar’s sugar processing capacity.

Focus on Better Sugarcane Seeds
In Indore, Sanjay Kumar also interacted with agricultural scientists from Madhya Pradesh.
The discussions focused on producing and making available improved and high-quality sugarcane seeds.
The objective is to increase sugarcane productivity by providing farmers with better planting material.
The minister also discussed the possibility of adopting technologies and agricultural practices successfully used in Madhya Pradesh.
Government Targets Farmers and Employment
Sanjay Kumar said the Bihar Government is committed to expanding the sugar industry while protecting the interests of sugarcane farmers.
According to the minister, new sugar mills and jaggery units could provide farmers with better local markets for their produce.
The expansion could also create new employment opportunities in rural areas and strengthen the wider sugarcane-based economy.
Bihar to Study MP’s Successful Practices
The minister said Bihar will examine technology, innovation and successful experiences from Madhya Pradesh’s sugar and agriculture sectors.
The government will explore how these practices can be adapted to Bihar’s requirements.
The focus will remain on:
- Attracting private investment
- Expanding sugar and jaggery processing
- Improving sugarcane seed availability
