New Delhi: In a symbolic celebration of global collaboration and mutual trust, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) commemorated its historic partnership with British Airways during the IATA Aviation Energy Forum held recently in Mexico. The moment marked a significant milestone in one of the aviation industry’s longest-standing fuel supply relationships.

A Partnership Rooted in History

British Airways—one of Europe’s largest international carriers and the United Kingdom’s flagship airline—shares a legacy with BPCL that stretches back to the 1950s. The partnership began when Burmah Shell, BPCL’s predecessor, supplied Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) to British Airways’ antecedent airlines, BOAC and BEA.

This supply relationship strengthened over the decades and continued seamlessly after the two British carriers merged in 1974 to form British Airways. The bond evolved through industry shifts, technological advancements, and changing global aviation dynamics, reflecting the resilience and reliability of BPCL’s aviation fuel services.

The airline’s sustained reliance on BPCL’s fuel infrastructure underscores the corporation’s expertise in managing high-volume, high-precision aviation fuel operations critical to international carriers.

Commemorating 50 Years of BPCL

As part of BPCL’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, Mr. Subhankar Sen, Director (Marketing), and Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, Business Head – Aviation, presented a commemorative plaque to Mr. Juan Ramon Minguel l Grano, Global Senior VP – Fuel, and Ms. Eileen Ivette Guibernau Cordoves, VP, British Airways.

The gesture acknowledged the airline’s longstanding confidence in BPCL’s reliability and reaffirmed the shared commitment to operational excellence. It also highlighted BPCL’s global standing as an aviation fuel partner capable of supporting the needs of leading international airlines.

A Testament to Trust and Global Collaboration

The durable partnership between BPCL and British Airways stands as a model of international cooperation, built on mutual respect, dependable service, and decades of shared achievements. As aviation continues to evolve, the collaboration underscores BPCL’s pivotal role in supporting global air travel through superior fuel management and service standards.
