Chennai: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) on Monday participated in the official launch of MC2+ IGNITE at IIT Madras, a new initiative aimed at strengthening India’s energy innovation ecosystem and supporting emerging innovators in the sector.
The launch brought together senior government officials, leaders from the Oil & Gas industry and members of India’s innovation community. Mr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Chairman of MC2 Foundation, attended the event.
BPCL Chairman and Managing Director Mr. Sanjay Khanna, who is also a Director of the MC2 Foundation, was present at the launch.
MC2+ IGNITE to Support Emerging Energy Innovators
MC2+ IGNITE has been launched in collaboration with IIT Madras to identify and support promising innovators working on solutions for India’s evolving energy sector.
The programme will provide selected innovators with support across multiple stages of technology development and commercialisation.

MC² Connects Startups with Oil & Gas PSUs
MC² serves as a common platform bringing together the resources and expertise of India’s Oil & Gas public sector undertakings.
The platform creates a direct interface between academic institutions, deep-tech startups and Oil & Gas PSUs, helping innovators gain access to industry knowledge and potential commercial opportunities.
Through this model, emerging technologies can receive support not only during development but also during the process of taking solutions towards market adoption.
BPCL Highlights Focus on Energy Innovation
BPCL said the MC2+ IGNITE programme aligns with its focus on innovation, deep-tech entrepreneurship and India’s energy transition. The initiative is expected to help create stronger connections between innovators and the energy industry while encouraging the development of technologies that can contribute to India’s future energy requirements.
The collaboration with IIT Madras is aimed at leveraging academic and technological expertise to support the next generation of energy innovators.
