MP SNCU Fire Claims Newborn’s Life; CM Mohan Yadav Announces ₹4 Lakh Aid for Family

A newborn died after a fire broke out in an SNCU warmer at Chhindwara District Hospital. Two other injured infants are undergoing treatment in Jabalpur.

Bhopal/Chhindwara: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed grief over the death of a newborn following a fire incident at the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of Chhindwara District Hospital. The Chief Minister announced ₹4 lakh financial assistance for the deceased child’s family.

Two other newborns injured in the incident are undergoing treatment at Jabalpur Medical College, with the state government set to bear the complete cost of their treatment.

Fire Broke Out in SNCU Warmer

The incident occurred late on August 21, when a spark in an SNCU warmer at the district hospital led to a fire.

According to the state government, three newborns were placed in the same warmer when the fire broke out and all three suffered burn injuries.

The SNCU staff immediately removed the three children from the warmer. Around 30 other newborns present in the unit were also shifted safely to another unit.

The fire was brought under control in time.

Injured Infants Shifted to Jabalpur

Following the incident, medical teams provided the injured children with immediate treatment.

Specialists involved in the initial response included:

  • Resident Medical Officer (RMO)
  • Child specialists
  • Dean
  • Medical Superintendent
  • Surgical specialists
  • Eye specialists
  • ENT specialists

Given the condition of the three infants, arrangements were made in coordination with the Dean of Jabalpur Medical College to shift them to Jabalpur for further and specialised treatment.

One of the three infants subsequently died during treatment.

Government to Bear Treatment Costs of Two Infants

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced ₹4 lakh assistance for the family of the deceased newborn.

The government will also bear the entire treatment expenses of the two surviving infants currently receiving treatment at Jabalpur Medical College.

The Chhindwara district administration has been instructed to remain in regular contact with the Jabalpur Medical College Dean and monitor the condition of the two children.

CM Expresses Grief Over Newborn’s Death

The Chief Minister expressed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength for them to cope with the loss.

The state government said officials are continuing to monitor the treatment of the two injured children while coordinating with the medical authorities in Jabalpur.
