Despite a strong increase in revenue, BPCL’s profitability was impacted by lower marketing margins on petroleum products, which were partly offset by improved refining margins.

The company’s revenue from operations increased 23.1% year-on-year to ₹1,59,479.28 crore in Q1 FY27, compared with ₹1,29,577.89 crore in Q1 FY26.

Marketing Margin Pressure Impacts BPCL Profitability

BPCL said the decline in quarterly earnings was mainly due to suppressed marketing margins on petroleum products.

The impact was partially reduced by higher refining margins, but volatility in the oil marketing sector affected the company’s financial performance.

The company’s EBITDA also moved into negative territory during the quarter, reflecting pressure on operating margins.
