Centre Modernises CAPFs with Advanced Weapons, Drones, Bulletproof Vehicles Under Modernisation Plan-IV

The Centre has significantly upgraded CAPFs under Modernisation Plan-IV by inducting advanced weapons, drones, secure communication systems, bulletproof vehicles and modern operational infrastructure to strengthen border security and internal security operations.

New Delhi: The Central Government has significantly enhanced the operational capabilities of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) through Modernisation Plan-IV, a Central Sector Scheme aimed at equipping the forces with advanced weapons, cutting-edge surveillance technologies, secure communication systems, modern mobility platforms and upgraded operational infrastructure.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said the initiative has substantially improved the preparedness of CAPFs engaged in border guarding, counter-insurgency, anti-Naxal operations and other internal security duties by providing them with state-of-the-art equipment and technology.

Advanced Weapons and Combat Equipment

As part of the modernisation programme, CAPFs have been equipped with a range of modern weapon systems and combat gear, including:

  • Assault rifles
  • Glock pistols with Corner Shot systems
  • Modern arms and ammunition
  • Weapon accessories

These additions are intended to enhance operational effectiveness during high-risk security operations.

Smart Surveillance and Intelligence Systems

To improve situational awareness and intelligence gathering, the Centre has supplied advanced surveillance equipment, including:

  • Thermal imagers
  • Passive night vision goggles
  • UAVs and drones
  • Automatic Fire Detection and Suppression Systems
  • Electronic surveillance equipment

These technologies are expected to strengthen monitoring capabilities in border areas and sensitive internal security zones.

Secure Communication and Digital Infrastructure

The modernisation drive also focuses on improving secure communication and digital connectivity across CAPFs.

The forces have received:

  • Secure communication equipment
  • Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) servers and nodes
  • Networking infrastructure
  • Command-and-control systems
  • Digital operational platforms

These systems aim to enable faster decision-making and seamless coordination during operations.

Enhanced Mobility and Operational Platforms

Recognising the need for rapid deployment and protected mobility, the government has inducted a variety of specialised vehicles, including:

  • Medium Bullet Proof Vehicles
  • Light Bullet Proof Vehicles
  • Mine Protected Vehicles
  • Wheel Armoured Platforms
  • Emergency Rescue Fire Tenders
  • Rubberized Inflatable Boats

These platforms are expected to improve mobility across diverse operational terrains.

Greater Protection for Personnel

The Centre has also strengthened force protection by supplying modern personal protective equipment such as:

  • Bullet-resistant jackets
  • Ballistic helmets
  • Protective shields
  • Other specialised protective gear

The equipment is aimed at improving personnel safety during high-risk missions.

Specialised Equipment and Infrastructure

Under Modernisation Plan-IV, CAPFs have also been provided with specialised operational equipment, including:

  • Counter-IED and bomb disposal equipment
  • Rescue and disaster response equipment
  • Tactical operational gear

Additionally, the government has invested in:

  • Modern training facilities
  • Communication infrastructure
  • ICT infrastructure
  • Logistics support systems
  • Maintenance facilities
  • Operational infrastructure supporting border management and internal security

Operational Capability Significantly Enhanced

According to the government, the modernisation programme has considerably strengthened the operational capabilities of CAPFs by improving:

  • Operational preparedness
  • Mobility
  • Situational awareness
  • Surveillance capability
  • Force protection
  • Intelligence gathering
  • Response capability

These improvements have enhanced the effectiveness of CAPFs in border guarding, counter-insurgency operations, anti-Naxal missions and other internal security responsibilities, while enabling them to respond more effectively to emerging security challenges.

The Ministry also informed that force-wise and year-wise allocation of funds and expenditure under Modernisation Plan-IV are detailed in Annexure-A submitted with the official statement.

This was stated by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Shri Nityanand Rai in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.
