Mr. Chandra Kumar Sawhney, a Punjab cadre 1955-batch IPS officer, took his last breath at his residence in Chandigarh on 1 November. He was 90 years old.
Mr. Sawhney served in various capacities in several district of Punjab. He served as the DGP of Punjab Police in 1983 and retired in 1990 as the PEPSU Roadways, Patiala. In his 35 years of service he served as the SSP of Narnaul and Bathinda, DIG of Ferozepur and Patiala, CBI SP in Ambala and IG, Punjab Frontier of BSF, in Jalandhar.
He was a profound officer and was known for his impeccable probity and integrity all over the country. He was hence awarded both President’s Police medal for Gallantry and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
Mr. Sawhney was currently on the Board of Trustees of Dayal Singh College and School, Karnal. He leaves behind his wife Harveen Sawhney, his son Rajan who is currently a consultant in the UK, and two daughters Misba and Shameela.
